After a thrilling Spring Battle semi-finals and finals on Thursday at the Absolut Park in Flachauwinkl, the riders and spectators had to wait until Friday night for the live video judging to finally see who got to take home the fame and glory.

Board shorts, slush and sunglasses can only mean one thing: it’s time for Absolut Park’s Spring Battle. After a couple of years of having to endure garbage weather, you could finally hear the inevitable “YO GUYS, THIS IS URGENT! MY SKIN IS TOTALLY RED!! DOES ANYONE HAVE SUN SCREEN, PLEASE?!” up on the mountain this time around.

Clemens Schattschneider didn’t disappoint and went HUGE

Tuesday saw the first ever open qualifications for Spring Battle, with the top 10 getting the chance to battle it out with the invited riders in the semi-finals. The insanely beautiful weather got everyone pumped, which made way for an absolutely sick level of riding. Triple corks and double grabs were thrown around, and with a huge cab 1260 Seppe Smits showed us right from the get go why he hasn’t been beaten at the Spring Battle for three years in a row now.

Seppe Smits couldn’t take home another win, but he did take home a fancy beer hat

The eight riders that made it to the finals were given three runs each, from which they had to pick their favourite to be judged at the live show on Friday night. In the end it was Billy Morgan, who took home his first contest victory and a big chunk of the 50.000 US Dollar prize money. The massive triple 1620 he threw down in his second run had him feeling safe enough to use his third run to please the crowd with a proper laid out backflip. Clemens Schattschneider’s triple cork put him in second place with only one point difference to Billy, while Seppe Smits chose his second run to be judged and made it to third place with his sweet backside 1440.

Billy was clearly enjoying his victory at the live video judging show at the Festsaal Flachau, Seppe Smits looks pretty happy with his hat too

The contest, the live video judging show and the infamous after-party once again proved to be the highlight of the spring season. At the 5 star TTR contest, we got to watch creative, fun riding, which made for an epic time for the riders as well as the spectators. For some extra entertainment, the rider and media chalets were equipped with awesome kittens to cuddle and Marco Grigis gave the stay some proper holiday feeling by playing a couple of tunes on his accordion. We’re giving out a big thank you to the Absolut Park Crew for another unforgettable event, we can’t wait for Spring Battle’s next edition!
