When: Feb 29th till March 2nd, 2008
Where: Kühtai, Austria
This weekend saw the finals of the 'new Austrian snowboard association' go down in Kühtai, Austria. The soul mission of the association, with its freestyle events, is to find the best male and female snowboarders of the country for that year. Luck and fate played a major part in this year's final as Patrik Huber and Julia Baumgartner successfully managed to hold on to their title's from last year. Everything was ready to go on location: the park was perfectly shaped, the riders were motivated but..............the weather Gods (embodied by the weather system 'Emma') unleashed their fury and forced the organizers to cancel the finals runs. With the finals being cancelled, the judges had to simply fall back on the qualification runs of the riders to decide on the winners.
Luckily for him and unlike most other riders who took it easy with their runs, Patrik Huber was in full throttle mode from the beginning and showed some super technical runs in the quali's. 'No guts, no glory' would be a fitting anecdote for this years comp, as many good riders just took it way too easy. But then again, how were they supposed to know that the weather would get shit so quickly. Sani Alibabic and Lars Oesterle, who also threw down some proper runs, shared second place. A similar fate awaited Julia Baumgartner, who was also very motivated from the beginning and gave it her all, spinning with style and amplitude. She was followed by Conny Bleicher and Aline Bock in second and third.
