The Alps’ oldest park opening celebrates it’s triple decade birthday from October 9-11 2015.
In 3 days, from October 9th- 11th, the Snowpark Kaunertal season kick off goes down for the unbelievable 30th time. Three decades ago it was the Alps one and only first big get together of the snowboard scene. Many things have changed since then, but the chill atmosphere and the diverse program for both athletes and visitors have been a constant part ever since. A smooth mix of Contest, Culture,
Festival, Testival and many Side Events made the KTO known far beyond it ́s borders and brought Rider and guests from all over the world to the Kaunertal Glacier. KTOs birthday edition, in cooperation with this years main sponsor Blue Tomato, provides lots of highlights. The athletic highlight is going to be the Invitational Pro Contest, where riders compete for prize money of € 6000,-. Vibes from the first KTO are still swinging at the GOPRO Legends Ridersclash.
Legends like Air & Style winner Marco Grilc, Sani Alibabic, Steve Gruber, Gogo Gossner, Gigi Rüf, Michi Albin and Tadej Valentan will compete in teams with jung riders from the Amateur Contest at this innovative Contest format. Two generations of style, tricks and ambition combined at the Snowpark Kaunertal perquette.
Besides the main events, there will be a broad selection of side events happening on the mountain and in the valley. Yamaha shows the latest snowmobiles including test drives. The Miniramp is back at the glacier and is implemented in some session formats. Everyone who wants to see and touch the roots of snowboard history will find themselves at the Living Room Snowboard Museum where a fine collection of snowboards from the last three decades can be found. In addition to that, nostalgia and melancholy will be reinforced at the 30 years KTO Photo Gallery powered by Pixel Project. To strengthen and maintain the balance, the Vew-Do Banlance Area offers a fun setup of balance boards to train the core muscles.
Kornland Sports and Backcountry Xperience offer free splitboard workshops and take their participants on their first splitboard tour of the season. Backcountry skills also play a big role at the free LVS workshop by Freeride Camps. The right usage of freeride equipment and useful skills are brought to you for free. At the end of a fun packed and exiting day on the mountain, the After Ride Session next to the Festival tent in Feichten are the perfect place to calm down and chill out with free drinks and BBQ by the Blue Tomato Mini Ramp surrounded by finest DJ sound. A sweet place to get ready for two massive party nights at the Festival tent.
The way to the glacier will be eased by the free shuttle service powered by VVT SmartRide. The shuttle operates throughout the weekend “green and safe” from Landeck straight up to the skilifts, where a perfectly shaped open park with 20 obstacles and 4 setups offers a a wide range from jibbers to kicker fans as well a many different Side Events and Sessions are waiting for the snow stoked crowed to play with. The latest gear of the upcoming season can be tested at the Blue Tomato Testival 3.0. With profound and solid advice everybody can find his or her dream equipment for his or her next park- slope- or powder adventures.
One of the absolute highlights at Kaunertals birthday party is the two day Music Festival in Feichten. BILDERBUCH, one of the most promising bands in the landscape of Austrian music will be the headliner. Five more top acts like HipHop Legends Beginner Soundsystem (Denyo&Mad), the Bavarian HipHop Combo Mundwerk Crew, sweet electro pop tunes from Say Yes Dog and the HipHop granates Phekt&Dan as well as the Wax Wreckaz make sure to set the stage on fire on both Festival nights. In addition to that, the the Festival Line up is packed with a chosen selection of Freeski and Snowboard movies. The latest masterpiece “Eversince” of the Swiss film production Absinthe Films will be on the screens as well as “Passanger”, Legs of Steels freshest production. The grand final will be the release of the 30 year KTO shortmovie.
