When the streets around the Onboard office in Munich are slowly but steadily filling up with intoxicated Lederhosen and Dirndls, we finally begin to smell the first scent of winter – along with the barf of drunken Australians. But that gentle odor also means, that the Hintertux Opening is just around the corner, which gives us that warm, fuzzy feeling only fresh snow or the opposite sex can provide us with.
As friday was a public holiday in Germany, the event kicked off thursday night with a mellow Pre-warm up party at PapperlaPUB and the glacier was packed for the first day of riding. The weather couldn’t have been more inviting and pros like Elias Elhardt, Marko Grilc or Anna Gasser, along with local boss-man Werni Stock got their first Tux shred of the season going.
The Betterpark was in perfect shape with over 30 obstacles, from the large line with XL tables to the medium and small lines and a jib paradise running all the way down to the park lifts. On friday the Alarm Clock Battle kept the pros and ams entertained and the big test area with 27 brands saw countless people checking out the new gear and shredding the hell out of it. At night there were several wild parties to release your inner beast – from the Pirates’ ‘Perception’ to Capita’s ‘Defenders of Awesome 2 – Stay Badass’ or the SHRED warmup party (now also known as ‘Moshpit-heaven’) and they were celebrated until the wee hours.
It was full-on action mode on saturday with epic weather conditions making everyone forget about last night’s escapades quickly. The session of the dudes saw some smooth riding from the likes of Sebbe de Buck, who scored the title ‘best rider’. Werni Stock who bagged ‘best trick’ with a switch bs 12 and Rowan Coultas, who was the ‘best’ rookie of the day. After the shred for the day was done, the crowd gathered on the parking lot for some beers, bbq and bag jumping (though doing so in that order might have been unwise).
When it was time for the final 10th anniversary opening night at the Hohenhaus Tenne in Hintertux, DJs like Marten Hørger or Phekt got the people hyped, everyone let loose and almost tore apart the massive party tent.
Despite the odds of last night’s party knocking everyone out, the Cash for Trix down rail session on sunday saw some fine shredding. All of them dollahs were given away to the likes of Maxi Preissinger, Jeremie Unterberger and other highly motivated groms.
The 10th anniversary of the Hotzone.tv Park Opening couldn’t have been better, with a three-day weekend full of snowboarding, partying and chilling with the homies. We surely can’t wait, what’s in store for us next year!
To shorten the time until then, go and check out the Betterpark Hintertux, that’ll be shaped daily and will see several other events of the season, starting with the Ästhetiker SHRÄD DAYS from 11th-12th October and the Zillertaler Välley Rälley on 25th and 26th of October.
