Scene One: Opens on a group of young snowboarders, travelling in a minibus down a darkened stretch of French Auto route, the rain hammering down on their windscreen. Nervously they look at each other as they notice the thumping of heavy raindrops on the roof of the van slowly die out and stop. The fear reflected in their eyes turns to pure excitement as the first snowflakes starts to descend silently, beginning the deluge of white, blanketing the minibus and the surrounding countryside as they continue slowly to their destination… The Trois Vallees.

So the scene is set for the return of British snowboarders baring the Snowboard Club UK emblem to group together and travel to the slopes of the French Alpes, for a barrage of snowboarding-drinking-partying fun. Now, whatever you may say about the French, they know their onions when it comes to world class ski areas. So where better to take the beating heart of British snowboarding (SCUK) than the largest linked ski area in the world… the fabled Trois Vallees.

From the 27th January till the 3rd February, SCUK will be calling the resort of Les Menuires (Men-weer) home. At 1,850 meters above sea level, it’s a snow sure place, and the joint Three Valleys pass covers the neighboring resorts of Courchevel, Meribel and Val Thorens which guarantees terrain suitable for every level, from complete beginner to ‘park lapping shred monkey’ to ‘steep and deep gnarly freeride dude’. Also, if asked nicely, established pro’s Stuart Brass and Spencer Claridge may help you out with coaching or guiding.

This year, there are a variety of sleeping arrangements, varying from sharing with 5 other SCUKers in the Yeti building where the main bar is located to accommodation in chalets, where you’ll get more room and a bit of shag pile carpet to sink your lazy feet into.

But sleeping will be the last thing on your mind when you take a gander at the entertainment in store for the week. Not only will there be the promise of a proper French discotheque or two, with Euro-beats and demi’s of beer, but there'll be the return of Spencer’s now world famous Pub Quiz, with nudity and drinking almost a dead-cert. There will also be the annual BBQ and the opportunity to give the infamous Luge run a go.
