The above video was posted by Shaun White to his Instagram and Twitter accounts yesterday, and all but confirms that The Artist Formerly Known As The Flying Tomato will be making a bid for one of Team USA's spots for park skateboarding at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
Though it'd be far from the first time an athlete has competed in both the summer and winter games, to our knowledge it's the first time a snowboarder has done so, and victory would make him only the sixth to medal in both.
"So far he's confirmed he'll be entering 'a couple of skateboard competitions this summer'"
However, all of this is still speculative - so far he's only confirmed he'll be entering 'a couple of skateboard competitions this summer' with no word yet on which ones they'll be.
Although he is older and relatively less experienced in the discipline than most of the competition (he used to compete in vert, whereas the Olympics will just see street and park events), there's no doubting that if he goes he's got to be in with a chance.
No other snowboarder has been written off only to bounce back harder more times than White, and he's already the first rider to compete - and win medals at - both the Summer and Winter X Games, as well as claiming the same feat at the now-defunct Summer and Winter Dew Cups.
Yeah, he's not competed in skateboarding since 2011, but in the meantime he's competed at two Olympics and claimed plenty of halfpipe golds, and in terms of overall experience and sheer willpower there are not many people who can compare.
He's certainly thrown a cat amongst the pigeons here, and if anything it'll give snowboarders something to talk about over the next couple of summers.
Do you think Shaun White can take it all the way in skateboarding? Or could his participation cloud skateboarding's experience as the new 'youth sport' in the five-ringed circus?
