After waking up with a serious hangover and amazing memories from the MILF party, our Dharma Bums where back on the side of the road in Des Moines looking for their next ride. The first to roll up was a 65-plus year-old couple named Chuck and Rose in a 55 Bel Air classic. The ride did not last long—a mere 20 miles—but the couple thought they looked like some “nice young men and there is just not enough of your kind left" Rose stated.
After a short wait, an original road warrior flew in with his old truck and picked the boys up. The man, Eric, was on his way to Montana to pick up a Short Bus that had been converted and was livable and that would be his new home. He told the boys stories of his days thumbing across America and how and where to hop trains. The ride took them another 70 miles, putting them just outside Nebraska.
The day got hot and the rides were not happening, so they skated. Not skating for fun, but to travel about 20 miles down the highway. During the 20 miles, they did find a nice hill and completed the task of skating for a mile without pushing.
Finally life would get good and interesting. A young sweet girl by the name of KC Jones pulled up. Her small Tercel was loaded down, but had plenty of room for two young guys like Casey and Joel. She had actually passed them on the highway and felt so bad that she turned around and did the full loop on the highway to come back and get them. She was on her way back to Portland and might as well have been an old friend. She ended up driving them from the Nebraska state line straight to Denver, CO with a quick stop at Buffalo Bill museum. Buffalo Bill was actually young KC’s great, great grandfather. Her real name Katherine Cody Jones (Buffalo Bill is from Cody, WY). The trip to Denver was not a planned stop for her, but she sidetracked to get them to Denver so they could hook up with Rome SDS Kingpin Rep D.I. and his crew of Demo Jesse and Joel Kramer.
Before 9 pm the boys were in Denver with drinks in hand with the crew. The little miss KC had decided to stay the night and celebrate the successful day with them. These boys can convince more girls to stay with them un-showered, broke and nearly homeless than most people can when they are living a normal life.
The night ended in late night parties, people getting more and more comfortable with each other, and the boys were stoked to be in the company of close friends and other member of the SDS.
Be sure to check back for more updates on Joel’s and Casey’s Thumbball Rally to get to the next premiere by “any means". They have about 1,085 miles to go and six full days until the Run For The Border “Any Means" premiere in Tijuana. More photos and video soon at www.romesnowboards.com
