As if rupturing his colon in December 2016 wasn't bad enough, Toni Kerkelä also found himself off the Rome team. Then back in July, by which time he'd made a full recovery, we spotted him tearing up the Les Deux Alpes glacier on a Salomon Huck Knife. His mini-movie Mosaic, a collab with fellow Finn Antti Jussila, showed the same. While there was no official confirmation, it looked like he'd found a new home.
Today, the deal has finally been given the rubber stamp. While he remains on Thirty Two boots, the artist otherwise known as T-Kerks will now be repping Salomon boards and binders.
"Despite the intestine-jeopardising nature of his urban output, he’s clearly having a blast"
He's an absolute demon in the streets; it's not for nothing that he was the only European rider to get an invite to X Games Real Snow 2017, where he finished second in the public vote.
Despite the intestine-jeopardising nature of his urban output, he’s clearly having a blast throughout, which is one of the reasons why his episode of HACKED was so fun to watch - and why he’ll always get our vote over the po-faced rail riders who act like cracking a smile might somehow allow their soul to escape out of their mouth.
Salomon team-mate Chris Grenier was among the first to chime in. “Toni is a Finnish powerhouse that oozes board control and his style is on another level" says he. "He’s an incredible snowboarder and an even better human being. I think Toni still has a lot to show the world, and he is a perfect fit on Salomon."
We’ll drink to that - kippis Toni!
