Red Bull and are once again teaming up to bring you the 9th Red Bull Nanshan Open, China’s largest slopestyle snowboard competition held just outside of Beijing on January 22nd and 23rd.

Continuing its legacy as one of the most rider-friendly and well-organized events around, the Nanshan Open offers riders a week’s worth of luxury hotels, great food, crazy parties and sightseeing – with a bit of snowboarding chucked in. Now who could resist that?

A 4Star TTR World Snowboard Tour slopestyle event, the competition offers up US$30,000 in prize money and 500 TTR points. To be held in the recently announced NIKE 6.0 Nanshan Park, the event has previously attracted top riders including Transworld’s ‘Rookie of the Year’ Austin Smith as well as the ‘Nitro RoadWarriors’ and ‘Pirate Movie Productions’ crews. Past winners of the event include Juuso Laivisto (2010), Freddy Austbo (2009), Jakob Wilhelmson (2008) and Hampus Mosesson (2007).

The local qualifier round, held one week prior on January 15th, offers the chance for up to six local Chinese riders to qualify for the main event. In addition to competing and shredding with the international pros, the Open is a great chance for these riders to make a name for themselves both on the local and international stage.

The Nanshan Open planted its roots as the first snowboard competition to be held on Chinese soil nine years ago, and has grown into one of the most popular snowboard events around. As one of the few ‘by-riders-for-riders’ events left, the crew focuses on creating a great atmosphere as opposed to simply another competition. Judging by it's successful past, the event’s ninth incarnation is guaranteed to be its best yet!
