Quiksilver Showdown Over the City Proves Gravity is Just a Rumour as Dave Fortin blows crowds away at Grouse Mountain’s Pro Am Contest

Bluebird skies, unspoiled spring conditions and epic riding greeted spectators at Grouse Mountain’s Quiksilver Showdown Over the City.

The resort’s first annual pro-am invitational kicked off with the am qualifier on Friday where nine amateur hopefuls were brought forward to compete against some of the industry’s top pros in the Friday Night Jib Session and Saturday Park Session.

During Friday’s Jib Session, riders hit the down-flat-down rail, step-up flat-down rail, and the 20’ box to down 40’ box and despite the evening snowfall, the bright lights of Vancouver shone through. Jeff Pepperdine and Molly Milligan took home the best overall riders while Andrew Geeves was selected as the Rider’s Choice. As the day wound down, everyone headed into Altitudes Bistro for a little après.

Saturday kicked off with a jib session. And as the sun burned away the morning cloud and crowds gathered throughout the Quiksilver Park, spectators and industry clouts alike were cheering loudly as riders like Dave Fortin blew the contest away by throwing down tricks like his 1440 and switch backflip attempts. Not to eclipse all the other riders though, Mike Osachuk won best overall male rider with his smooth mix up of tricks on all of the features and Stephanie Just won best overall female rider for her consistent and solid riding on the jibs and hips. Other stand-outs included Kael Hill, Travis Williams, Logan Short, and am qualifier Warren Williams.

In it’s first year with Quiksilver as the title sponsor of both the Quiksilver Park and the Showdown Over the City, the boardsport giant was thrilled with the caliber of riding and the world-class features brought forward by the Grouse Mountain Park Crew “the event couldn’t have been a bigger success in our eyes" said Shawna Olsten, Marketing Supervisor for Quiksilver Canada. “This is the first year for this contest and it is truly just the beginning. We plan on making this bigger and better each year."

Overlooking the city, the Quiksilver Park at Grouse Mountain is a favourite location for international pro riders and filmers, not only for its world-class features, but for its unparalleled location and pristine, panoramic views.
