Orange AIM Series in Scotland

The Orange AIM Series took Scotland by storm on Saturday 5th August for the 2006 British Indoor Slopestyle Championships. The brand new Braehead SNO!zone in Glasgow played host to the second Orange AIM event of the summer.

As a recent addition to the series, the new venue didn’t disappoint, with heaps of snow and a massive viewing balcony creating amazing atmosphere and riding conditions. The competition attracted over 500 competitors and spectators to the brand new complex at Xscape, with a further 100 locals enjoying the free beginner lessons up for grabs.

The riding standard was high in the female snowboard category with pro snowboarder Laura Berry storming through the heats, completing a huge gap to noseslide over the kinked box and a 270 on 270 off over the box to take home the title. After an outstanding performance, newcomer Kirsty Taylor, pipped Claire Frost into second place with a solid boardslide on the 12m up-flat-down box and boardslide to 180 off over the box.

The men’s competition was equally hotly contested, with an unprecedented nine men taken into the final. 13-year-old Jamie Nicholls performed an awesome technical run including a 270 on to backside lipslide on the down rail and a cab 270 on 270 off over the box to take the overall men’s title; another British record for this up-and-coming boarder. Damian Doyle came in a close second, with a stylish switch 50-50 noseslide along the 12m up-flat-down box, leaving third place to Gordon Adam, the only rider to clean the 10m rollercoaster box with a boardslide to fakie.
