The UK’s top Snowboarders and freeskiers descended upon Bracknell Ski Centre at the weekend, for the latest round of the Orange AIM Series British Artificial Slopestyle Championships.
Over 50 snowboarders from all over the UK descended on Bracknell on Saturday 2nd September for the National Slopestyle Championships.
The warm up big air competition kick started the day’s event, with local riders Jack Shackleton and Becky Cullum showing visitors how it’s done. Jack threw down and a huge backflip to walk away with the overall title, whilst Ben and Sparrow Knox took second and third. Sparrow, aged just 12, secured his first ever men’s podium position with his super smooth and effortless 540’s. In the women’s competition Becky Cullum took top honours after she landed a perfect 360 off the big jump, leaving Liz Osbourne to take second and Samantha Rogers third.
In the afternoon’s Slopestyle competition it was great to see local rider Samantha Rogers secure gold and the National title on home turf, after she linked together a clean run that included a grind to noseslide on 7m flat down rail and a big 360, which she had been trying to nail all day. Liz Osbourne took second with a noseslide along the box and a perfectly landed 360, whilst Laura Berry, who was nursing an injury, took third.
Ben Knox, who had been on fire all day, took the prestigious men’s title and the Salomon’s Best Unsponsored award. His winning run included a 180 on to frontside boardslide on the box followed by a huge backside 540 and a 270 on 270 off on the bottom box. 13-year-old Jamie Nicholls took second with a switch boardslide to frontside noseslide on the box and a backside 540 to cab 180 tailpress on the box. Local lad Frazer Dainton, also impressed the judges and managed to clinch third place overall, after putting together a clean and consistent run.
