O’Neill and the Swiss resort of Davos join forces to host the O’Neill Evolution, the latest 6-star freestyle contest on the Ticket To Ride (TTR) World Snowboard Tour, schedules to take place in January 2007.
After seven years of staging the legendary SB Jam, the partnership is now focused on pushing snowboarding to the next level by organizing the O’Neill Evolution.
The top 10 riders from the 2005/2006 TTR Ranking List, including freestyle snowboarding powerhouse Nicolas Mueller, current TTR World Champion Mathieu Crepel and O’Neill team riders Gian Simmen and Janne Korpi, are all automatically invited to throw down their best tricks in the name of raw freestyle progression. Riders will confirm their attendance in October and November. Joined by the current two leaders of this season’s TTR tour, the O’Neill Evolution will also see four wild cards handed out to special invitees – including snowboarding superstar and founding father of the TTR, Terje Haakonsen.
With jam session formats allowing maximum room for expression, creativity and true freestyle freedom, plus a massive prize purse of US$100,000 to tempt the world’s best riders to Davos, the O’Neill Evolution promises to kick down the door of freestyle snowboarding’s status quo.
Upgraded to one of only six 6-star TTR World Snowboard Tour events, the O’Neill Evolution will set the stage for some of the world’s best freestyle snowboarders to strap in and compete in the two official TTR contests set to unfold at the gigantic Quarterpipe and world-famous Davos Superpipe – including special features – at the foot of the Jakobshorn. On top of all that, a slopestyle layout featuring two of the biggest hits of the winter will also be prepared for the riders to show what they’re made of during exciting expression sessions.
Constructed under the expert guidance of snow-shaping legends Claes Hagstrom and David Ny, the O’Neill Evolution Quarterpipe event will be incorporated into the new TTR Quarterpipe Project that includes the O’Neill Evolution, O’Neill Pro Freestyle & the Arctic Challenge. This project, led by transition masters Terje Haakonsen and Gian Simmen, represents the dawn of a new era for shaping, construction and contest format. With the top three riders in the Quarterpipe contest and the winner of the Highest Air Session in the Quarterpipe at the O’Neill Evolution invited to Terje’s own Arctic Challenge event, there’ll be no shortage of mind-blowing tricks during the Night Finals, broadcast live on TV & web-cast on 5th and 6th January 2007.
With an estimated 25,000 spectators expected over the five contest days, and a global TV audience watching the event from the comfort of their own homes, the O’Neill Evolution is shaping up to be one of the greatest freestyle snowboard sessions on the 2006/2007 TTR tour.
