Swiss resort Davos gears up to host the leading freestyle snowboarders of the world at the inaugural edition of the TTR SIX(6)STAR super event the O’Neill Evolution, 2nd-7th January, the first contest of 2007 on the Ticket To Ride (TTR) World Snowboard Tour.
The third TTR SIX(6)STAR points-earning event in a row following the Nokia Air&Style and Nissan X-Trail Jam, the O’Neill Evolution confirms the current leaders in the TTR Ranking List presented by Swatch as they compete in jam session formats on a world-class Superpipe and Quarterpipe for the huge prize-purse of US$100,000, 1000 highly-coveted TTR Ranking points and qualification spots to The Arctic Challenge.
Confirmed riders based on TTR Ranking protocol from last season’s ending TTR Top 10 Ranking include TTR World Snowboard Tour Champion title-defender Mathieu Crepel (FRA), Finnish foursome Risto Mattila (FIN), Antti Autti (FIN), Janne Korpi (FIN) and Markku Koski (FIN), transition-master Nicolas Mueller (SUI) and O’Neill team rider Gian Simmen (SUI). Current TTR World Nr 1 Scotty Lago (USA), the legendary Terje Haakonsen (NOR), halfpipe master Markus Keller (SUI), up-and-coming all-rounder Jean-Jacques Roux (FRA) and Austrian shredder Wolle Beer (AUT) join in as wildcard entries, creating one of the most exciting riders’ lists of the season.
The women’s rider field includes reigning TTR World Snowboard Tour Champion Cheryl Maas (NED); recent Roxy Chicken Jam winner and current TTR World Nr 1 16-year-old Jamie Anderson (USA); French talent Caroline Beliard (FRA) and Norway’s Olympic bronze medalist Kjersti Buaas (NOR).
The O’Neill Evolution Quarterpipe is part of the new TTR Quarterpipe Project, an initiative led by Terje Haakonsen to enhance rider safety. Also included in the site set-up is a slopestyle layout featuring two of the biggest hits of the winter in the expression session. All contests run in jam session format allowing maximum room for expression, creativity and freedom.
Live TV and cybercasting of both semi-finals and finals from 5th-6th January, 2007 allows a global audience to dial in and join the thousands of spectators expected to witness one of the world’s most innovative contests as the O’Neill Evolution starts the New Year with the next installment of the TTR World Snowboard Tour.
