It’s always interesting to know how this year’s movies are doing: which ones you guys liked or loathed, what the surprise successes were and so on. Ben from X-Treme distribution has given us a few clues as to what have been the main videos this winter. For him, the best sellers have been From___ With Love, Paradox, Mountain Lab and Futureproof – all from the film crews that generally pump out the blockbusters each year. No real surprises there, then. More interesting, however, is the success of movies such as The Big Blind, Shrediquette, Derelectica, and also One Love, which some consider the best movie of the season. Overall, Standard and Mack Dawg are leading in terms of sales once again. Some, such as the Fast Food crew (Shrediquette), are now entering the big league, along with Derelectica (which did much better than last year’s Promo Copy) and The Big Blind (after Positron last year). Last year there was a lot of snow everywhere, and it showed in the overall quality of the movies!
Check it out. We got some earlybird news on next year’s blockbusters. For this season, Standard Films will be working with the same all-star cast of riders from Paradox, but they’ve also added some new rookies to the squad – guys such as Marco Grilc, Juuso Laivisto and Drew Fuller. The crews have been split between Terrace (Canada) for a big heli trip, Europe and plenty of new and unexplored locations. Standard is also shooting with Japanese boy wonder Kazuhiro Kokubo full time after the Olympics, so look out for this in shops come September, it should be a killer!
They’ve got some suprises up their sleeves for this season, with a crew that just gets stronger and stronger.
Another of the big boys of the movie world is Absinthe. Following the success of Futureproof, in which Brusti and Justin Hostynek showcased plenty of new talent, such as Jussi Tarvainen and Jules Reymond, Absinthe have released a full hour-long special for Fox/Fuel TV on this year’s movie. They just struck a deal for eight episodes in total, seven of which will be dedicated to their new movie that will be broadcasted next autumn. Plus they’ve got some suprises up their sleeves for this season, with a crew that just gets stronger and stronger. Check the list, brah: Nicolas Müller, Gigi Rüf, Marc Frank Montoya, Jules Reymond, Travis Rice, Wolle Nyvelt, Jonaven Moore, JP Solberg, Christophe Schmidt, Kurt Wastell, Eric Christiansen, Justin Bennee, Matt Beardmore, Chris Coulter, Nic Droz and, of course, Romain De Marchi. Bang! And seeing how much it’s been dumping in Austria recently – compared to France and Switzerland – it’s safe to say that we’re gonna see a lot of Arlberg and Tirol in that flick too.
Made by a crew of crazy, talented Finns, Elekrep is one of the sickest films of this season.
Another exciting European project coming out this autumn will be Thermos. This documentary movie has been a work in process for two seasons now, and will be available in October/November. Filmed around the global trips of Darius Heristchian, Joël Strecker and few other top riders, Thermos will be an original production with its different approach of filming and communicating the images. You can get all the news and some photos on the website: www.thermosproductions.com
And to show you a bit more of the European creativity on the film front, let’s talk about this season’s revelation: Elekrep. Made by a crew of crazy, talented Finns, Elekrep is one of the sickest films of this season. Jaakko Itaaho, the man behind the project, made such a big impression with the movie’s trailer that he got hired by Mack Dawg Productions to film for their new project. He’s been already filming some stuff for them in Scandinavia and Austria. And for those of you who don’t know Elekrep yet, go to www.elekrep.com and download that sickness – 40,000 downloads and counting. And also don’t miss his full interview at www.onboardmag.com.
