New Manchester Snow Village

Work will start next week on the North West’s first indoor real snow Alpine village, Chill Factore. Located next to The Trafford Centre just off the M60 in Greater Manchester, the venue will be expertly designed and plans to offer Olympic standard coaching for snowboarders in the North West.

Due to open in October 2007, the £31m development will include the UK’s longest and widest real snow indoor ski slope (180 metres long and 100 metres wide), as well as a rock-climbing wall, a toboggan run and an indoor skateboard park.

Austrian craftsmen styled the Alpine village to appeal to a wide audience, from proficient skiers and snowboarders looking to brush up their technique to beginners seeking tuition and a first time experience.

Covering 250,000 square feet, the venue offers an outdoor chilled environment including three real snow slopes, catering for skiers and snowboarders of varying abilities and a warmer interior with bars, restaurants and a viewing gallery.

Operations Director Andrew Lockerbie, who is also Chairman of the British Association of Ski Instructors (BASI), said the team behind Chill Factore brought together a highly relevant range and depth of experience. “We have a team here who are passionate about snow,” he said, “and who bring with them long experience in the technical requirements, in ski resort operations and tuition.”
