The O’Neill Pro Freestyle is going down right now in the European snowboarding hub of Avoriaz, from 30th January – 2nd February 2007. If you can’t make it over, then you can catch all of the men’s semi-final heats and finals via the live webcasting on Friday 2nd February, from 3.30pm onwards.
So what’s in store, then? Well, a monstrous Quarterpipe now awaits some of the world’s most exciting and talented riders – including Olympians Gian Simmen and Janne Korpi, Scandinavians Miikka Haast and Henning Marthinson, Canadian crowd-pleaser Marc-Andre Tarte and locals’ favorites Olivier Gittler and JJ Roux.
With such a star-studded field of established shredders in town to do battle, this is one show you won’t want to miss. These respected riders won’t have it easy though – the next generation of freestyle snowboarding is also here in the form of 12-year-old Dimi de Jong and style-king-in-waiting Fredrik Austbo. The girls’ event also promises big things, with the presence of Women’s TTR World Snowboard Tour Champion 05/06 Cheryl Maas, France’s Caroline Beliard and Austria’s amplitude queen Lisa Filzmoser.
You can stay up to date with the entire goings on by checking out the dedicated O’Neill Pro Freestyle website. Quarterpipe qualification heats for both the men and women get underway on Wednesday, while Thursday will see two progressive City Sessions unfolding in the streets of Avoriaz itself. And once Friday rolls around, you’ll have front row seats for the best snowboarding of the whole week. So pencil this date into you diary – Friday 2nd February, 3.30pm. Trust us – you won’t regret it.
