Fallen comrade Kevin Pearce's condition continues to improve after he injured himself badly on New Year's Eve.
On the Well Wishes to Our Frend Kevin Pearce Facebook page Kevin's brother, Adam, posted early this morning: "After a tough morning with alot of nurses and docs bugging him, Kev gave a thumbs up after I read some of your posts to him." Great news, and if you've got any good vibes to send the kid, then that's the place to post them and we're sure he'd be stoked to hear from you.
Kevin's still being kept in the University of Utah Hospital where he's been since he was admitted with a 'severe traumatic brain injury' sustained while training double corks (he was wearing a helmet). The hospital's Neuro Critical Care Medical Director Elaine Skalabrin stated "Kevin continues to improve and is actively participating in his therapies. He is making progress on a daily basis."
We must say that when we were at the BEO it was touching to see a US Burton dude visibly choked as he spoke of Kevin's injury and passed around 'I Ride 4 Kevin' stickers. The kid's clearly as well respected as a person as he is a rider and it's encouraging that he seems to be progressing as well as can be hoped after such a terrible head injury.
We're sure there's still a long way to go in his recovery but this is certainly a positive sign for which, we're sure, everyone involved in snowboarding is grateful for. Once again, our thoughts go out to KP, his family and his friends. Be safe.
