A big shout out should go out to Mr. Travis Rice, who changed the way people and organizers look at snowboarding events. With his own 'natural selection' competition which went down in Jackson Hole end of January was nothing short of groundbreaking. Using the natural god-given terrain for a freestyle event was THE idea of the season!
The fellows on Austria's Kaunertal glacier were so stoked on the idea, that they decided to throw a somewhat similar event in the latter half of April. More precisely on the weekend of the 27th, when the inaugural 'Hidden Kicker' session is going to go down. The name of the event is pretty self-explanitory for what the event is going to be revolving around. In fact, as we write this, the good people on the glacier are shoveling away and creating kickers and other obstacles in the vastness of it's backcountry. As soon as all the features are complete, they will be closed off for the general public, and will await the lucky ones who decide to swing on by on the weekend of the 27th to de-flower em.
The organizers want to further inform you about the safety precautions and requirements that will be implemented for the weekend. All participants should be equipped with the standard backcountry gadgetry such as transcievers, probes, shovels etc....Furthermore, all should have the necessary know-how about avalanche rescue and how to read the terrain. The organizers take no responsibility for riders that are in the backcountry, as they are doing that on own risk. So, everyone that decides to come should be prepared and know what risks they are taking on this endeavor.
