Last Saturday, 14th of March 2009, there was not just the 20th anniversary of Blue Tomato taking place in Schladming, but during the day 200 motivated riders frequent the Atomic Superpark at the resort Planai to show their tricks at perfect weather conditions an the outstanding snowpark set-up.
As the highlight of the day Plan P came in its year one with a rider-friendly jam session for snowboarders and the judges had to find out the riders with the best-line performance out of 60 competitors.
Already in the morning hours with the first sunlight it was clear to expect a perfect and chilled riding day up in the Atomic Superpark Planai. The little brother of the Atomic Superpark Dachstein invited all riders with a lot of new and soft snow. Till midday the riders were riding over the kickerline and the many different boxes and rails, tried to get a perfect pic while the photo- and filmsession, did their registration for the contest, chilled out in the sunchairs or tested some new stuff. The funky beats of DJ Truckdriver motivated the riders and some pros showed their motivation throughout gunfires on the proline like Roli Scharmer, Marco Hafez, Herby Thaler, Dani Limmer and Phips Gruber from the Blue Tomato or Atomic Team.
The best-line contest started around 1 p.m. started and the riders had 90 minutes to show their best skills.
The winners of the different categories are: Snowboard Rookie Men (< 16 years): 15 year old Planneralm local Matthias Lichtenegger with his line of fs boardslide to fakie at the kinked box, 50/50 180 out at the straight box and fs 5 at the first kicker). Teamrider Vanessa Waldenhofer showed a cab 180, boardslides and backside airs
The other highlight of the day was a back-in 89 Cash-for-tricks session. Doing an old school trick on the first small kicker won every rider EUR 5.- cash. One of the rippers was the legendary Austrian snowboarder and park-daddy of the Atomic Superpark Dachstein Bernd Mandelberger who showed the kids what a boned nosegrab has to look like.
Right after the session the people came together in the Weitmoosalm to enjoy the delicious BBQ, hang out in the sun and talk about the session or prepare for the afterparty in the Marias Mexican in Schladming.
Because already at 10 p.m. the bar was stucked and everybody was celebrationg Blue Tomato while looking back in history. Thus a great riding and party day with friends and good mood ended in the early morning hours.
