Final Standings of 2008 Freeride World Tour sponsored by Nissan

The first ever Freeride World Tour sponsored by Nissan took place from mid January this year and consisted of five contests around the world.
The tour kicked off in the Mammoth mountains in USA, followed by a stop at the Russian resort of Sochi, then a flying visit to Schruns, Austria, on to Tignes in France and then came the final stop where the tour had its grand final in Verbier, Switzerland.

During the events the riders have been judged based on three criteria: choice of line, control and fluidity, which can be summed up to one criteria: General Impression. The Tour has a massive prize fund of $300,000, the highest sum ever to be paid in ski or snowboard freeride contests.

Here are the results from this years tour:

Nicolas Hale-Woods (Head organiser of the Freeride World Tour) is thrilled to have successfully completed the first edition of the Tour: “It has been a great challenge to organise the first ever Freeride World Tour with the best skiers and snowboarders in the world, in some of the most well known resorts.”

“I am really stoked for the World Champion title but the most important for me is to enjoy. We have ridden beautiful mountains during the tour. The competitions are interesting and a real kick of adrenaline. It is where you give it all and push the limits for the female freeriding.” Ruth Leisibach

“It is really good for our sport with the start of the World Tour. It is seriously organised but still in the great spirit of freeriding. We are all here to ski and have fun but now the kids know what to aim at. To qualify to the world tour and then you can become a pro rider. It is the perfect entrance.” Kaj Zackrisson
