Now it’s confirmed it’s interesting watching this interview we did with Peetu back at the start of the contest season. As ever, he’s a quiet, humble little dude but he does admit that he’d like to keep hold of his crown for another year and after some solid performances at events like the Burton European Open and the Air&Style the TTR geek department have consulted their abacus and found out even though there’s still the 6Star US Open left to run, it is mathematically impossible for any other rider to catch the Finnish stomper. From now on we’re calling him Re-Peetu, or even Three-Peetu.

As the TTR say: “With results calculated from the 6Star Oakley Arctic Challenge last weekend, it has been confirmed that no rider can earn enough points to unseat Peetu Piiroinen from his World No. 1 position. Peetu had another stellar season and managed to stand atop four 6Star podiums in halfpipe, slopestyle and big air formats; a feat that no other rider on tour has managed to accomplish this season. Peetu is able to push ahead of the pack with his versatile skills in all disciplines and will be awarded for his impressive season at the close of the US Open.”

So, once more P-Diddy has scuppered the plans to have the US Open be the defining stop on the tour. Bet Burton love that [Doctor Evil laugh], but seriously it’s one hell of an achievement to have the tour crown in the bag already considering the insane level that contest snowboarding is at these days and how hard dudes like Seb Toutant, Seppe Smits, Iouri Podladtchikov and Mark McMorris have been pushing it.

Now the TTR is all about who can get second – or as our Photo Ed calls it the “first loser”. It’s far from meaningless though, as securing your TTR top 10 status ensures these riders receive automatic invites to all 5 and 6Star TTR events next season, and all men in the top 5 bag themselves a slice of the end-of-season prize purse. Currently Belgian rider, Seppe Smits, is in the World No. 2 spot with Canadians, Sebastien Toutant and Mark McMorris, in World No. 3 and World No. 4, with Swiss duo Iouri Podladtchikov and Christian Haller in World No. 5 and 6. respectively.
