With the 4Star status comes $25 000 USD and 500 Swatch TTR ranking points, inspiring a host of international riders to trek across the tundra to Bannoe Lake. Fresh from his win in China at the 4Star Red Bull Nanshan Open, will be World No.108, Freddy Austbo (NOR) who could potentially move into the TTR Top 100 after the event. In 2007, Otto Veijola (FIN) took out this event, and after placing 2nd here in 2008, he’s looking for a second title. Another Finn wanting the win will be Teo Konttinen, who needs a strong result to kick start his competitive season. Alessandro Boyens (GER) placed third in the 2008 BGV Fest also taking out best trick, meaning he is yet another rider who could claim the top spot.
The brothers Rudi and Chris Kroell will represent Austria at the BGV. Both these riders need to lay down some high scoring runs in hope of continuing their ascent up the Swatch TTR world ranking list.
As always, the Russian snowboarders will be demonstrating why they are heralded as Swatch TTR’s next superpower nation. Some of Russia’ s favourites could possibly take down some of the more experienced Euro crew so be on the lookout. Also on the hunt are some of the best riders of the 2Star BGV Russian Open, who had earned their ticket to ride for the BGV Fest on January 24th 2009.
