Bands Announced for the Snowboarding Brits

Touted by Radio One as ‘a truly cutting edge event’, The BRITS combines world class Snowboarding and Freeski action with amazing beats and killer tunes in Laax, Switzerland. Between 10th and 17th March, whether in resort or on the mountain, all visitors, residents and competitors alike, with an exclusive Festival band securely round their wrist, will be treated to an extensive music menu at this year’s BRITS.

Previous headliners to have graced the BRITS have included Ugly Duckling, DJ Yoda, Rob Da Bank, The Cuban Brothers, Rodney P & DJ Skitz and Funk Royale. For this year’s big shindig, brought to you by Red Bull and Xfm, the party reins are grasped firmly by Bristolian big band Babyhead and heavy hitters, the Stanton Warriors. Babyhead are a 10 strong South Western crew of musicians with an energetic mix of turntable dexterity, heavy horn section and Ska and dub influences, which is bound to get the party rocking. Ranking as the top breaks DJ act in DJMag’s Top 100, Stanton Warriors have built up a reputation of delivering some of the most hard-hitting, dance-inducing beats and breaks. We dare you to try and stand still on the Thursday* night – bet you can’t do it.

Wednesday** will see the Animal 20 Year celebration party in association with Snowboard Club UK, and to help you party hardy they are flying out the Scratch Perverts, the world-famous and influential DJ turntablist collective. Consisting of World DMC, Vestax and ITF champions, much has already been said and written about them. It’s ALL good. As the Perverts themselves say, Hip-Hop is ‘a celebration of all kinds of music just by its very nature’ so expect the unexpected as they scratch, cut, slice and dice their way through tune after tune.

The strong backbone DJ line up for your aural taste-buds both on the hill and around the resort throughout the week consists of DJ Swift, (DMC Finalist 1997-98) a dish best served loud, bringing a fusion of Rock, Hip-hop and Rap. Nick Maxwell, previously an entree for big acts like Run DMC, Dilated Peoples, Blackalicious and Rahzel, now brings his solo DJ sets as the main course. Russ Porter mixes good dance music, new and old. In his own words, “Like a kebab, my music goes well with booze but might make a mess of your shirt.” TonyB can generally be found Europe-wide spinning his distinctive ingredients of Hip Hop, Rare Groove & Funk. Dom Harington, (the current British Snowboard Halfpipe champion) plays storming Drum & Bass sets that has everyone asking for seconds. And with his new album ‘Days to Come’ already critically acclaimed (by Giles Peterson and his Worldwide award for Album of the year), Bonobo comes ready to bring the house down with a delicious mix of styles, ready to shake off his down tempo misnomer and underline his move to Ninja Tune.

The serving bowls for this audio-culinary feast? None other than four of the best alpine venues, each with a different vibe. With the award-winning Riders Palace Lobby Bar you get sophisticated surroundings rarely seen outside of Capital cities, a silver service if you will. The Riders Palace Club has seen more big names than The Ivy, playing host to Busta Rhymes, Roni Size, Goldie, De la Soul, Snoop Dog and many more. The Crap Bar, with its 24 tonne granite bar, is the most popular après bar in resort, and will set the table for many musical delectations throughout the week. Casa Veglia (new to the Brits for 2007) is an intimate, more traditional alpine institution, like Swiss Fondue, and is sure to get the temperature to gas mark 9 and keep it there till the wee small hours.

And if that wasn’t enough for your appetite, you can get a dessert of the finest Snowboarding and Skiing action known to man, in the outstanding Alpenarena of Laax, with a double chocolate fudge sundae of a resort. To ensue you get a slice of this legendary event, The Brits are offering amazing packages starting from as little as £199pp, which includes 7 nights Bed & Breakfast, 6 days lift pass, festival wrist band (access to event clubs and bars) and event bag (DVD, T-shirt, event programme).
