Johnny Miller was coming off a super strong season with a solid video part in ‘Thanks Brain’ and more footage on the internet than anyone. Johnny lives in Big Bear where he makes the most of Bear’s park and usually has it captured for a Transworld video. I sure am looking forward to seeing his part in ‘Stack Footy’ – this year’s release from Think Thank). Jesse Burtner, Producer/Director/Mastermind of the Think Thank army, takes his riders to some unique features and I always look forward to checking out what they come up with. I also know that we bought Johnny a ticket or two to Alaska, so we’ll see what they came up with up there. Will Johnny turn into the next Rocket Reeves?

Gus Engle was also coming off a standout year in 2007. Spending his time with the Think Thank crew for ‘Stack Footy’ has given Gus an opportunity to film what he wants and take a different approach to the video part mold. Calling Gus’ snowboarding original would be like saying being hit on the head with a brick would be uncomfortable. He has an eye for creative snowboarding that is second to none. Gus is spending his summer as a lumberjack in his home state of Alaska.

Laura Hadar has continued to pump life into her iconic image by opening the coolest shop in the state of Utah. Named ‘Fice’, this hip clothing and footwear boutique is the talk of the town. Stars aplenty make their way through Laura’s doors to shop and socialize with Salt Lake’s “in-crowd”. Laura stepped to some heavy urban features this year. One of the heaviest would have to be the gap to down bar at the rail gardens in SLC. Also of important note to those fans of Laura, her pussycats are doing well. Thankfully Ricky Spirit has ended his base-jumping career and Killer is taking his napping to a whole new level.

Nima Jalali was coming off a career-defining year in 2007, and 2008 was no different. Finding his inner entrepreneur, Nima started an eyewear company called Ashbury. As his brand grows, Nima is in need of larger clothing to accommodate his swelling frame. You see Nima has been spending hours upon hours of time in his local gym. Gaining the respect of fellow bodybuilders and gym rats wasn’t easy for Nima, but it was necessary for him as he is recovering from an ACL surgery. Apparently Nima’s neighbors in Hollywood have also taken notice because I heard a rumor linking him romantically to Ashley Olson. Nima wasn’t available to comment about that at this time – but make no mistake – he’s ready to kick some ass this year.

My year was as busy as ever. Filming with two video companies – Grenade & Autumn Line – proved difficult but seems to have worked out in the end. Some good days were spent with Danny, Benji, Kyle and the Grenade crew filming for ‘The Boned Age’ and an awesome spring session was had with Peter and the Autumn Line guys. The new film will be called ‘Technicolour’. I’ll be heading down to Nicaragua in a few weeks on a surf trip, which I look forward to tremendously. While in Mammoth, my golf clubs get dusted off and put to good use whaling balls into the woods. This fall will be a busy one, traveling with the Grenade crew on a large premier tour. Should be fun and will burn the time coming into the new season.

Gabe Taylor – over and out.
