So. Why snowboarding?

I visited Montana Snowcenter fridge with my parents. I saw dudes like Wessel van Lierop and Kas Lemmens do their tricks on the rails. I found that very cool, I wanted to do that too, only I had to take ski lessons first – I was too young to snowboard. That  sucked. When I was old enough I started snowboarding. The locals said to me that I had talent – Wessel and Kas helped me a lot. I learned freestyling in Montana Snowcenter. In my second rail contest I came third.

How’s fridge riding?
One thing we always have is snow; the snow is fairly stable in quality and you can snowboard from morning until late at evening. The main advantage of fridges is that you can do many runs in a short time –you can learn a trick to perfection.

What’s the scene in the Netherlands like?
The Netherlands is a small country, everybody knows each other. We challenge each other for the best tricks. It is always fun to snowboard. The scene in the Netherlands is small but powerful.

How did you score your first sponsors?
Apparently I got noticed in a contest in a fridge in Neuss, Germany. I received a mail and we made an appointment. I was very proud. My parents were glad they did not have to buy gear anymore. I got everything for free, how cool is that?! I was just twelve years old! If you are talented the sponsors will find you.

Whose riding stokes you out these days?
I think that would be Kas Lemmens because he always has a smile on his face when doing his tricks. He does the most sickest tricks in the universe, in the Netherlands, and in Bergeijk, hahaha!

Biggest trouble you and the homies ever got in to?
I was with a group of homies and we had said to our parents said we were going to crash together. But we did not, we just hung out on the streets and the police came and we were screwed. My parents were quite upset. Bad ass!

Never ride a rail again or only do so on skis?
I love doing the rails. When I have no choice I would even do them on skis. I would ask Mees van Lierop for some advice. When I’m in the mountains I feel alive. It doesn’t matter that skiing is a bit gay. I don’t mind, hahaha!

Favourite crew to film with?
It was Postland crew, but I’m often on trip with the Dutch freestyle snowboard team nowadays. It got pretty hard to combine, but if I get an invitation for filming and I have got the time I will go. I really love it. So give me a call!

What’s overrated in snowboarding these days?
The snowboard clothing, a freestyler is no mannequin, hahaha. I think that the snowboarding style is overrated too.

What’s the most embarrassing thing that has happened to you while snowboarding?
That would be naked snowboarding in Levi. My friend in the Netherlands said WTF?! and laughed at me. I got a frozen ass, hahaha!
