Here at Onboard we love a good knuckle trick. Fuck that giant kicker, just fly past the take-off, launch over the tabletop, boost off the knuckle and fly past your homies as they cheer you on.
This year has seen some seriously wild variations get caught on film and we're fully down with what's been happening. Progression doesn't only have to exist on the jumps themselves, so it's great to see riders getting creative and trying weird and wonderful new tricks. A whole new wave of park riders are getting creative on the features in front of them and pushing the boundary's of what should be possible on a snowboard. The likes of Marcus Kleveland, Mons Roisland and Fridtjof Tischendorf are setting the internet alight every time they post a new one, but let's not forget those that set this whole craze off in the first place. Just think of Lens Jorgensen blasting his way over knuckles in the RK1 days of old.
Knuckle tricks are the new carve. You heard it here first. On a separate note, please excuse how we named most of these tricks, we have no idea what they're actually called..
Here are the best ones we've seen this year but feel free to add any suggestions in the comments below, there are sure to be some we missed.
Alek Oestreng - Backside hand drag double cork
Double corks are hard enough, but off a knuckle. Jeeeeesus Alek, way to kill the game with this one. Pretty sure you can hear his nose scrape the knuckle after the first rotation too, that could have been nasty.
Fridtjof Tischendorf - Lay back-way back Eurodrag
This is jokes, because our man Fridtjof was clearly so surprised he stuck this that he bailed straight after. Makes for one banging Instagram clip though.
Marcus Kleveland - When he broke the internet
There's too many spins in here. We're pretty sure young Marcus either has the ability to slow down time or grew up in a NASA training facility because he racks up some serious G's here. He officially won the internet with this one and took knuckle tricks to a whole new level with this clip.
Mons Roisland - Double hand drag front flip
This was a serious heater from Stubai Zoo and the first counter-rotating hand drag we saw this year. Plus it's double hand drag, so extra style points for an already steezy AF knuckle drag.
Fridtjof and Mons - Back to back hand drag shifty
Two in a row! We had to check this one a few times, popping a rotation off the knuckle and hand dragging to stall the rotation and land fakie... How is that?... We don't... Wait... What? Absolutely filthy snowboarding and next level in air awareness.
Marcus Kleveland - Frontside tail butter nose grab 720
Another one from Marcus because this kid is just next level. Taking over at Stubai Zoo Marcus put this one down like he was just warming up. Super floaty butters off the knuckle man.
Eiki Helgason - Corked back 5 hand drag
Nice to see that Eiki still knows how to get creative with the best of them. In fact he still is the best of them, so this one had to go in. A real rad creative line from Sexual Snowboarding's latest flick.
Marius Schafferer - The classic
The classic back 3 double hand drag. Done right, with bags of steez. Props to Marius to getting this one on lock. We're still trying to do them as good as Marius does.
Scuballoons in Stubai - Double backy into pow
Waabaa! We've seen backflips off knuckles, but it's rare to see a double. Absolute charging from the Norwegian Markus Rustad. This one got us really stoked.
Rusty Toothbrush - Backflip knuckle to frontflip
We bet that hurt like shit but is sure is one stylish way to ride away from a nasty knuckle impact. We've seen it from the likes of Halldor Helgason before, but this one took the cake because it was clearly intentional.
Now this is how you knuckle a kicker...FULL EDIT --> onboardmag.com/videos/web-series/rusty-toothbrush-mess-meribel.html
