Though our print mag may be no more, we often flick through our archive of our own and others’ old rags for purposes of procrastination… Or research, if the boss is reading this. RESEARCH, dammit!
Amidst the genuinely awesome old snowboarding editorial – with, naturally, the occasional wack attack – and enjoying reliving the exploits of a bunch of legends who’ve mostly retired now, there are those other pages where brands from both snowboarding and beyond would try their damndest to hawk their new wares to you, young impressionable readers.
The ads. When brands get it right they remain ingrained on your memory (we still remember the Burton one from 95 listing the things snowboarding wasn’t, concluding with: “It’s you, scum.”), but equally there have been more than a few that elicited a raised eyebrow or two even back then. Now, it’s like taking the time tunnel the the Land that Aesthetics Forgot.
We leafed through some old issues and dug out some weird and wonderful ads from the 1990s to marvel at…
