Another amazing snowboard park in the Swiss Alps. Especially in spring when the sun makes the whole park a bit softer and its great fun to shred the halfpipe or enormo-superpipe.
Home to the Burton European Open and the British Champs for the last few years, Laax's freestyle terrain and attitude towards snowboarding is word-renowned and top notch. There is a big rail and box garden – from the kink rail into the pipe over S-Box to the triple wave box – and a bunch of different sized kickers, not to mention the mother of all Euro superpipes. But when you choose your line through the jungle of rails be careful of the massive green monster snake – get round that bugger and you’re on fire for sure.
Laax is pretty damn snowsure thanks to its glacier (takes a while to get there from the base station but there’s another park there) and with a good dump there’s good freeriding to be had – the tree run beneath the Xbox gondola is super fun – but beware of the gnarly spikey rocks that can lurk just below the surface before a solid base has gone down. Ask a local to take you on the ‘James Bond’ too.
As for nightlife, the Crap Bar at the bottom of the home run or the Riders Palace are good places to start - be it a swift afterski or the beginnings of an Ollie Reed-type binge. There's a club beneath the Riders Palace where they often have big name acts, and there’s also a couple of other nightclubs in town that will make catching the first lift pretty hard.
