How did 292 Crew start? Where did you all meet?
It all started when Our main editor, Aapo Enqvist – a.k.a Yung Hefe – moved to Vuokatti in 2011, where the Finnish "halfpipe" high school/snowboarder factory is located. He was making movies before in Southern Finland with his home brothers but now he did not have anyone to film with, until Riko asked him if he was going to film something that season. They really hadn't talked to each other much before that, apart from some grudging congrats after a contest that Aapo won at Riko’s home resort. Both of them were down to film and they had their first urban mission together and after that everything started naturally to flow forward. The first movie was called Snellman - Namllens, starring Riko, Anton, Aapo, Rene, Mikko, Ville and Nooa. Living in Vuokatti is the main reason why everything started. Maybe we just realised that Olympics are not for us and started to do our own thing and the school was still pretty okay with that and we could easily get to filming trips. Almost all of us had been studying there, and the young guns (Rene, Mikko, Ville, Nooa) still are.

What’s up with the name?
Old inside joke. You can find the answer in very first seconds of our first movie, Haloo.
Who is in the 292CREW? Who does what when it comes to your edits?
Joel Ahola, Aapo Enqvist, Lasse Ihalainen, Anton Kiiski, Tuomas Pohjonen, Mikko Rehnberg, Rene Rinnekangas, Riko Rinnekangas, Nooa Risku, Tatu Toivanen, Ville Mustonen and our fresh addition, Santeri Uimonen. We wish to see a comeback from Antti Komulainen, he has a sick part in U.F.C.
We have learned everything by ourselves. Nobody knew how to film, edit or snowboard but we’ve just been filming each other and learned it all the way. We never had budget or any money to pay for filmers, and that’s actually been a pretty good thing, because nowadays all of us can film pretty well. Editing has been mainly done by Aapo Enqvist (HEFE) and Anton Kiiski, but everybody helps a bit along way. Anton Stennab has been helping us with the new movie, TRANNYFINDER. Kiiski runs our social media and also organises the premiere event – an epic party you don’t want to miss out on. Tatu is in charge of answering the mail and keeping the crew updated with what’s going on. Everyone else just keeps shredding the fuck out.
What was the main motivation for you to go out and film your crew in the first place?
Holy trinity ₱u$$¥ ₥o₦€¥ ₩€€d. Guess it’s just a drive to do something by ourselves, express our creativity and progress in everything we do (snowboarding, filming and editing). We want to do movies/edits that we would be stoked to see; most snowboarding edits are just too similar to each other and a little bit boring to watch. We always try to add some spice to our edits to keep stuff entertaining. Make sure to check our previous movies to know what I’m talking about!

What did you get up to the past winter?
Last winter we were building a Pasi Winch and it took fucking long to get ready. The winch opened a whole range of new spots so it was quite interesting season after all. We were filming for our new movie TRANNYFINDER the whole season and traveling around Finland, as usual. Tatu and Lasse went on a small trip to Japan to visit Joel, who was working there for the whole season. We were also filming few edits in Ruka, first around new year and second in April during Wappulounas. Our new movie premiered on Friday 11 November in Helsinki and it's now dropped online.
What do you think about social media and snowboarding? Is it easier or harder to get noticed now?
It’s both: good and bad. It depends how seriously you take it and for what purpose. It’s a good way to show people what we are doing, though, and to promote our edits and premiere event for example. It has helped for sure to get more name for us and also some free lift tickets in order to make an edit/photos to our Gram. But there is just too much content all the time and everything disappears within few hours. It’s definitely easier to get noticed in social media, but in other hand filming and publishing a movie per year is not enough anymore to get the attention. Even though it’s a lot of work hours and effort put in, we have to update our feed to make it “real". It feels like Instagram is all and everything nowadays. The whole culture is way different that it used to be, it’s all about likes, views and followers, and nobody cares about you if you don’t have them. One of our riders tried to get some free stuff from some random brand and got the answer: "Dude, you got only 300 followers :D" #lit
If the crew had to call one place home, where would that be?
Definitely Ruka. That’s where we usually get to ride, party and have a good time together with the whole crew. In spring time it’s the place to be, there is a best park and best vibes. It’s none of the crew's 'local hill', but that’s where the true Lordi spirit lies.
Who inspired you when you were younger?
We grew up in a golden age of snowboarding in Finland. There were so many film productions and even two snowboarding TV-shows. Aleksi Litovaara's snowboarding show has had a big influence for us – Aleksi was going for filming trips with all the different crews in Finland and showed what they do at the spots. From that we learned how to build spots, how to act, what to say to people in case of kick out etc. etc. So good. Just to mention few that influenced and inspired us: Digistyles, Roistola, Coldfocus, EBD, Miika Niemi's movies, FPP, Videograss and of course, KBR. Thank you.

Which crews or movie productions where you looking at and thinking 'that is the SHIT'?
KBR productions. They started in a similar way to us, doing all by themselves starting from zero. Just with the joy of snowboarding and filming with the friends they have become successful as a crew and from doing banger movies many of their riders got sponsored and some of them got to film with bigger productions. For example Petrus [Koskinen] and Toni [Kerkelä], the OG KBR founders. Petrus filming AND Toni riding for Transworld's movie last year. That’s the way, that’s the shit. Waiting for comeback of KBR.
Does Jah pay the bills, or snowboarding, or how do you finance yourselves?
Work hard play hard. We get some money from the premiere ticket sales but that’s all. That money we use for the expenses the crew has, for example building a 2K winch and buying lights. We never had a budget (Except GoPro deal in U.F.C.) so we pay everything by ourselves. We always try to get tickets for free in order to film a edit and on filming trips always sleeping at our friends places We are pretty cheap-ass guys so it’s not a problem, we don’t need much to be happy. Would be nice to get some budget and get things to next level though.
What are your plans for the coming winter and the future of 292CREW?
Get lit and keep doing us. We’ll continue filming with 292CREW and get better, bigger and weirder. We try to get our story to the next level and keep up the good vibes. Next season we are going to make three chapters and publish them during the winter.
We want to get together and film also with other Finnish crews and riders and that way represent Finland as a whole. We have so many good riders out here so we want to invite them to come filming with us and have a trick or two in the video.
