Those in the know will tell you that this Norwegian all-terrainer is one of the most talented riders in snowboarding, with a style so fluid you'd think he was melting. Streets, park, trannies, pow... anything he attacks you can bet it will be a joy to watch.
“In my eyes he’s the most complete rider in Europe at the moment; from creative street stuff to all the tech tricks on a jump, and he’s got some powder experience. Also he’s a great pipe shredder"
- Christian Haller
If it’s an Alek Ostreng banger you’re after, you don’t have to look far. This Norwegian powerhouse is nothing if not prolific, appearing regularly in major movie projects as well as never letting his ‘gram run dry.
Rewind five years and Alek was one of those riders you don’t really see anymore; a contest killer who also found the time to film banging parts. Wins at the 2011 Livigno River Jump and the 2012 Burton European Open proved he could beat any field in both Big Air and slopestyle. Meanwhile he was always one of the standouts in the Forum movies, straight from his first appearance as one of the ‘Youngbloods’ in F__ It.
Even back then, it was no mean feat to do both, but with so much raw talent he held it down in a manner few others at the time could. These days he’s definitely more about the filming side; just this year he had a barnstorming part in Arcadia, and also contributed to Louif Paradis’ Beacon. Plus, of course, he’s still part of the infamous RK1 crew with his childhood homies Ståle Sandbech and Len Jørgensen, whose regular stream of edits are better than most entire movies.
He’s not completely turned his back on competing, and even scored 5th place in X Games slopestyle as recently as 2016 - but he’s on this list for showing snowboarders everywhere just how to keep blowing minds in the Insta-age.
Basically, anyone who can do shit like this gets our vote every time.
“He is a super creative snowboarder, and he can ride everything!"
