Making it through the central European snowboarding summer feels like diving the full lengh of a 25 meter pool with one breath to me.
After four incredible summer shredding weeks in Whistler (COC), I wasn´t worried too much at first to find a snowy playground over here but when I started looking for it, it wasn´t quite easy. Dachstein only has a black dirty glacier without running lifts right now, Hintertux is a brainshaking nightmare of frozen-ness combined with a non existing park and even though a weekend with the Rome gang in the artificial skiing hall in Neuss was great fun, the snowboarding factor of it couldn´t be compared to some days in fresh snow under the real sun.
In the end of the long breathtaking dive to summer snowboarding happiness we touched ground in Saas Fee what meant the end of all searching to me. In Saas Fee, the snow is still white at the end of August, you still get slush without needing to battle rivers of melted snow in the afternoon and you find park conditions better than any German resort can offer anytime all through winter. In the end we shot some tricktips and an ad, and since I couldn´t seperate myself from lovely Saas Fee, I even stayed a bit longer when my ride home left.
By now, I´m on my way back to the other end of the pool, ready for a long dive that may carry me to Quebec and back, but I´ve charged my batteries in a way that I am confident to make it to the other end of the pool ,where I hope to break the surface once more in the beautiful white mountains of Saas Fee before starting the real winter over in good old Colorado.... mmmhmmmmm....
