I got back from New Zealand a while back and it was really nice, so I thought I'd let you know about it and show you some shots. It was quite stormy for the first days then went bluebird which was epic. I had a crazy long flight to come here though, exactly 40 hours of traveling and 29 of them in the plane. Helsinki-London-Bankok-Sydney-Christchurch-Queenstown. Longest ride in a plane for me ever.
We had a Nike ACG house there close to Wanaka town and a rental car to get up to the mountains and to Snowpark. They do not have proper heating in those houses though, and it was really cold days inside and outside.
Apart from it being winter when in the northern hemisphere it was summer, it doesn´t feel any different to be on the otherside of the globe. It was pretty funny to think that my home was otherway round on the otherside. What an amazing place this planet is. There are penguins here about three hours drive away from Wanaka, how cool is that?
Riding was been really fun again after summer. They had a good park there with quarterpipe, pipe, kickers and a rail line. All in good shape, but not much snow outside of the park. Liftlines are really long at midday, which is not that cool so it is better to ride on early morning and late afternoon.
You can not really find any old Maori culture there, which used to be huge. The British really took over this country back in the days. Kiwis are nice though. Now I even know it is not because of the fruit why the people in New Zealand are called Kiwis. Kiwi is a national bird and they do not have wings at all. Here are some pics from the trip.
Have a good day, Jukka
