It was the final stop of the Burton Scrap Metal held at Milton Keynes on the 31st October.
I arrived at around 6pm and the contest started at 7pm. I got changed and then registered for the event. After that it was time to start practicing, the set up was great and included the Rude Wallride, Side on gas pipe at the top, at the centre of the slope there was the stair set which included the down flat down and the handrail. To the bottom of the slope there was an up gas pipe, wallride and skip, then to the very bottom there was another gas pipe and a quarterpipe with a rail on top.
I couldn’t wait to get started, we got told that we had around 1 hour to practice which was plenty of time to get some creative and impressive tricks for the Jam session. The jam session was great and also a good way to prove yourself to the judges that you stood a chance in the top ten to go through to the final. The jam session was around 1 and half hours and after this was the final. It started off well for me, I did some good tricks on the down flat down also on the gas pipes.
At around half 10 the finalists were read out from the MC which was Ferg Hetherington from Burton. I soon realised I was through to the final along with many other good riders such as Will Smith who was killing it on the hand rail all night, he also won the riders choice award. So the finals were on and it was best-run counts! The finals started but I fell on my first run, I knew that I had to land my second run to have a chance of being in the top three and I managed to land a solid second run. The snowboarding that night was a very high standard even throughout the whole of the Burton Scrap Metal Series.
In the Prize giving I got second overall, which I was please with, along side James Carr who was first and Steve Revell who was third. So it was a great turn out for me at the Burton Scrap Metal winning at Breahead in Scotland and coming second at Milton Keynes.
