Another day, another snowboarding Kickstarter campaign, vying for your support. After several autonomous drones were successfully funded on Kickstarter, there have been a few new snowboard-related Kickstarter projects that have come our way since. The latest one to drop into the inbox is 'Lumbos', a rotating disc that sits between your bindings and board, allowing allowing 'your feet to rotate independently for a more free and comfortable experience'. This isn't the first time we've seen the idea of rotating bindings, with 'Rotary-Ah' perhaps being the most notable. One of the selling points for these rotating bindings is that skating through lift lines will be more comfortable. Lumbos extends that idea to an even greater extent, by allowing total freedom of movement while riding:
Simply shifting your weight around and changing foot angles accordingly, you will be able to use any combination of unlimited positions/stances to perform some amazing tricks — alpine, duck, fakie, flat, freestyle, goofy, jibbing, & more… just as one normally would surfing or skating. Maybe even with the potential to perform a 360˚ table top or ‘tray’!
Yes that's right, even Jeremy Jones' notorious 360-shuvits will be possible with these discs installed... While the concept is definitely an interesting one, our immediate concern is that your feet will move around when you don't want them to, like when landing spins on kickers. And how would one foot traverses work? The team behind Lumbos suggest that when you apply pressure to an edge, your stance becomes locked, although we have to admit that without testing these ourselves, we're a little sceptical:
Your feet move only when YOU want them to— by weighting your heels or your toes, you control the exact stance and positioning of your feet.
To us, this seems like another attempt to fix a problem that never really existed in the first place, but we'll leave that one up to you guys: Could this technology ever work? Let us know in the comments section below. ]]>
Salomon: Team Training Part Three http://onboardmag.com/videos/web-series/salomon-team-training-part-three.html http://onboardmag.com/?p=79454 Tue, 18 Nov 2014 21:55:23 +0000 Sam Oetiker Check out the third and final part of Salomon's epic trip through Japan by rail, featuring Louif Paradis, Harrison Gordon, Nils Mindnich, Teddy Koo and more, getting wild in the streets and backcountry. While the name 'Team Training' might initially suggest something regimented, military-like and not really a whole lot of fun, the irony is definitely in the fact that Salomon's 3-part series has been the very opposite: relaxed, street and backcountry snowboarding in some never before seen spots in Japan. Part three of the series takes the crew to Niseko, where, after a nasty slam and quick visit to the hospital, the crew break out some heavy tricks in the streets and backcountry. Look out for some stylish pole jamming, creative lines in (and on) the trees, and some insane street snowboarding from Louif Paradis. Featuring the snowboarding of: Harrison Gordon, Teddy Koo, Nils Mindnich, Kohei Kudo, Taka Nakai and Louif Paradis. Hop on board with the Salomon Team as they embark on Team Training, a 3-part web series traveling the diverse terrain of Japan via public railways in search of snowboarding, with no particular destination in mind. From discovering new spots in overcrowded working class cities, to finding untracked lines on the bottomless pow-filled peaks of the North Island, Team Training documents the wanderings of some of the most talented snowboarders in the world. Join Jed Anderson, Louif Paradis, Chris Grenier, Harrison Gordon, Nils Mindnich, Kohei Kudou, Teddy Koo, and Chris Carr as they ride the rails from spot to spot, log hams, and kill time. This is Team Training!

DOUBLE TROUBLE AT THE 12TH O’NEILL PLEASURE JAM http://onboardmag.com/snowboarding-events/worldsnowboardtour/double-trouble-12th-oneill-pleasure-jam.html http://onboardmag.com/?p=79516 Tue, 18 Nov 2014 16:33:08 +0000 Tom Copsey ANNA GASSER AND ERIC BEAUCHEMIN DOMINATE THE SUPERPARK DACHSTEIN What an absorbing opening for the World Snowboard Tour! For the 12th time already, a studded line up of more than 100 national and international riders gathered at 2700 meters above sea level at the Superpark Dachstein. USD 20.000,- and weighty points for the slopestyle ranking of the World Snowboard Tour were up for grabs at the 2-day-battle of tricks. In a thrilling showdown at brilliant conditions, it was Anna Gasser’s turn – local and everyone’s darling - to cash in her first ever victory at the O’Neill Pleasure Jam. At the men’s super-finals, Eric Beauchemin from the US hyped the crowd with an outstanding run and came in first.

FRIDAY, 14/11/2014 – QUALIFICATION Apart from some fog patches sweeping over the Superpark on Friday, the weather conditions remained stable for the entire qualification day, allowing for all riders to have a solid run at mostly perfect conditions. While the riders initially showed some respect facing the impressive 5-part contest setup, they constantly raised the bar in the second heat. Jonas Boesiger (SUI), for instance, pulled out a BS10 Double Cork, proving that he was going to have some say in the finals. At the end of the day, however, it was Rowan Coultas (GBR) who came in on top, ahead of 23-year old Alexey Sobolev (RUS) and Jonas Boesiger. In the ladies’ category, Yuka Fujimori (JPN) stepped up to the top of the ranking, leaving Maria Hidalgo-Perlas (ESP) and Henna Ikula (FIN) in positions 2 and 3.

SATURDAY, 15/11/2014 – SEMI FINALS Accordingly to the contest mode, the top 12 men and the top 6 women out of the qualification came to face the 30 invited riders in Saturday’s semi-finals. In view of the high riding level on Friday, the invited riders knew that this was not going to be an easy ride to the finals for them. As a matter of fact, it initially seemed as if the invited riders were losing ground against the riders, which were properly warmed up from Friday’s qualification. Then Eric Beauchemin, winner of the O’Neill Pleasure Jam 2012 stepped into the game: With a first showcase of his skills, the ripper from the US skyrocketed straight to the top position of the semi-finals ahead of Jonas Boesiger. Also, Sebbe de Buck (BEL) left no doubt that he deserved to proceed to the super-finals: Thanks to a solid run with a stylish Switch Back 9 and a Backside Rodeo in the semi-finals, he had the judges convinced. Among the girls, Elena Könz (SUI) once again proved her talent by winning the semi-finals ahead of Anna Gasser (AUT) and Anna Gyarmati (HUN). 2-time O’Neill Pleasure Jam champion Aimee Fuller (GBR) did not manage to bring on her A-game in her two runs, which left her in 5th place, thus not qualifying for the super-finals.

SUPER-FINALS & BEST TRICK AWARD POWERED BY PORTUGAL SURFCAMP Cheered by an enthused audience, the top 8 men and the top 4 women from the semi-finals put up a spectacular showdown-fight for the top podium positions. Austria had high hopes for its athletes Clemens Millauer and Matthias Weissenbacher, however, they lost ground to their strong international competitors in the super-finals. Jonas Boesiger secured the 4th place with a clean run, right behind 22-year old Roope Tonteri (FIN), who kept his game together in his final run. This year’s runner up is Alexey Sobolev, who also won the Best Trick Award powered by Portugal SurfCamp with his massive Switch Back 10 Mute, and can thus look forward to a 2-week surf trip. The Russian was second only to 23-year old Eric Beauchemin, who already in his first run made clear, that he was not going to let anyone else take away the crown of the O’Neill Pleasure Jam 2014. “The park setup is really good. I simply feel good here and I’m very happy with my runs, especially with my victory run at the end, I never had that before”, Eric comments. As a 2-time O’Neill Pleasure Jam champion, Beauchemin is now in the line of succession of Elias Elhardt (2009, 2010) and Nicky Wieveg (2005,2006).

Among the ladies, the super-finals‘ battle for the victory turned into a real thriller. After a solid run of the third-placed Kristiina Nisula (22) from Finland, the 27-year old Elena Könz (SUI) rushed all the way up to the top with an outstanding run. It seemed as if she already had secured the victory with this performance. But then local rider Anna Gasser (23) stole the lead from her with a fantastic run involving a superstylish Cab 7 Mute, which also got her the Best Trick Award powered by Portugal Surfcamp in the ladies’ category. “At first, I did a safety run, but when I saw the others raising the bar so high, I had to take the risk,” Anna says. After being the runner up last year, she is now the first Austrian ever to win the O’Neill Pleasure Jam. “I basically grew up here, so winning this competition is really special to me.”

These guys certainly go hard and this is hands down their strongest release to date. After their quite frankly brutal slams edit, we were left wondering whether these girls would have enough physical mobility left in their battered limbs for actual snowboard parts... Turns out they did (and then some!), with 'Tres Hard' being easily the crew's strongest release to date. With some heavy tricks on handrails, walls, and a bunch of creative spots, the Too Hard girls filmed some solid parts that are more than worthy of your internet minutes. Be sure to look out for Madison Blackley's solid opener, Corinne Pasela's accomplished part and Danyale Patterson's ender, with Laura Rogoski being another definite standout. In all honesty though, all of these girls kill it! We're hyped to hear that the Too Hard crew have successfully secured funding via Kickstarter for this year's movie project, so expect more hammers coming your way this time next year! With riders like Jeremy Jones, Mark Sollors, Jamie Nicholls, Jaeger Bailey, Frank April, LNP, Yuma Abe and many more in attendance, there was definitely no shortage of hammer tricks, creative lines and a fair few meaty slams. After two jam sessions, the judges whittled the field down to just six, who went on to battle it out in a two-run, best run counts final. Although there were a fair few errors from many of the riders, Zach Aller landed the cleanest and most impressive run in the finals, with a front blunt switch-up to boardslide on the flat to down gap rail, followed by a 50-50 to wallride on the box feature. Jager Bailey was also riding solidly for most of the comp, doing enough for second place, with local kid Yuma Abe rounding out the podium in third. Benny Milam took the 'best rail trick' award with a 50-50 to hardway backside 270 transfer from box to rail, Frank April claimed 'best air' with a backflip tailgrab and Reo Takahashi gapped over the down flat down to a backside wallride to walk away with the 'best wall ride' award.

The contest is scheduled for the 4th of April 2015 during the infamous 10-day World Freeride Festival: Tailgate Alaska (April 3–12, 2015) which brings together more than 500 freeriders from around the world to Thompson Pass just outside Valdez. Mark Sullivan, the founder of the event, explains, "This year we are going back to basics. Ever since 2010 when Travis Rice won the contest, the format has evolved — both judging and venues — by delivering a new experience and pushing the boundaries of freeride contests. One thing has not changed — people always want to know who is the best. With some of the best terrain and conditions in the world, Alaska is considered the Holy Grail by the global freeride community. We provide the canvas and the riders will draw their lines – with one standing out from all the rest. As Contest Director Rasmus Ostergaard emphasizes, "Anyone who believes they have the skills should be able to step up and face off with the best riders and terrain. The aim is to run a safe contest in a very challenging environment — trusting riders' judgement of their own ability. Who doesn't love seeing new talent making a bold impression in the exceptional conditions Alaska has to offer." 'Back to basics' means all riders get two runs to impress the judges — focusing on line selection, control, fluidity and freestyle trick implementation. The World Freeride Championship welcomes all riders from around the globe for a chance to take the sword and a share of the $10,000 prize. Entry for the contest begins December 1st, 2014. Online rider registration begins December, 1 2014 at www.worldfreeridefestival.com. All riders must register online before March 15, 2015. (The field is limited to 60 riders.) All entries must be present for the Riders Meeting on April 3, 2015 ~ 6pm at the Tailgate Alaska Basecamp. Weather days are April 5-6, 2015. There's a lot of this travel-focused, navel gazing sort of stuff going on in snowboarding right now but we have to say that Dakine did a pretty great job with this one. While the concept is a simple one - follow three of their riders to three various snowboard locations, the way this has been put together, with beautiful sweeping aerial shots, decent commentary and some great riding, makes it very worthy of your internet time. Although a little slow to get going, the second half of this features some amazing snowboarding, which be right to expect from Elias Elhardt (possibly the most stoked snowboarder on the planet), big mountain crusher Jason Robinson and French powerhouse Victor Daviet. After Baker and Innsbruck, the edit concludes with the three of them ripping the Dolomites to pieces, with pow slashes, booters and drops exploding all over our screens. It's a fitting end to a piece of cinematography that really made us want to pick up our snowboards and get out there this winter. Traveling is about experiencing the new, but also about leaving your imprint on new places. In this new edit, you'll experience three different spots from the perspectives of Elias Elhardt, Jason Robison and Victor Daviet; sometimes as visitors, sometimes as hosts and always as true sons of the mountains. Mom said 'Don't play with your food' but she isn't here now is she?! Photo: Bob Plumb
Alex Tank has been around for a while now and he managed to do so without having to fight for victory in contests. Being part of Isenseven for years – not just as a rider but also on the production side – he has made a name for himself with his creative parts and ideas, not to mention a good attitude when it comes to industry shenanigans. Whether it's the Jib Factory, which was less of a contest and more of an excuse for some of Europe's finest snowboarders to ride together and hang out, or the Atagge Demos, which were basically on a similar blueprint but for all the homies, Alex was always up to something. Plenty of reasons why having Tank on your Team will most certainly lead to some fresh projects and that's what adidas probably had in mind when they brought Alex on board as their first Euro. We decided to use the opportunity and catch up with him... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vaf2n9j0srQ So Alex, how did you get into snowboarding in the first place? I started snowboarding when i was 11 or 12, I guess. I got my first spark of snowy inspiration when I saw a snowboarder on the hill in Allgäu, Germany and immediately asked my parents to get me a snowboard. For some really cool reason they said yes. What’s your favourite crew to ride and hang with right now? Well, being home with the Foreal and Atagge guys always lightens up my day. Just cruising and having a good day on and off the hill. Same goes with the Gnarly guys.
Pat Moore, Scott Blum, Mike Rave, Hunter
That's how a Tank crosses a bridge. Photo: Bob Plumb
Explain to us, what’s the Foreal Project Foreal Project is a little label/crew/movement/blog my really good friend Basti Kuhn brought into being around 4 years ago. As you can guess by the name it's about staying real to the things that matter in life. Snowboarding is only one part of it, as well as art, tattoos, motorbikes and everything that inspires us in one way or another.

You’re backing grassroots events like the Jib Factory and the Atagge Demos. Why are events like that important to you?

Even though I somehow competed in railjams when I was younger, I never really felt comfortable there. I liked the fact that everybody came out to hang and have a good time together, but as soon as the contest was on, it felt like such a fake comradeship and the actual fact of winning was so omnipresent. Since this is not my view of snowboarding, I wanted to delete that fact from events and that's the whole concept behind happenings like the Jib Factory or the Demos. Nobody has to show off and the level of riding grows naturally without any pressure from crowds or judges. That's where the best snowboarding usually happens and riders are "really" getting stoked. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N_9zoFjNxKk You were a regular face in the Isenseven crew. What conclusion did you draw from their quitting making snowboard movies? For you, personally, and the industry as a whole? I really hope "A Way We Go" was not the last Isenseven release, but after 11 years of doing exactly the same, Alex Schiller as a producer came to the conclusion that he's going for new adventures. But that doesn't necessarily mean we'll never ever release another film. Officially it is only a creative break for Isenseven and since riders like DBK and me got more involved in the production side during the last two years, I'm really looking forward to some new project in the future. You’re now on adidas, how did that come about? As a brand based in Germany, I guess adidas just needed a German snowboarder, haha. And since I've always been a big fan of their skate programme, I was confident enough that they'll be heading into a similar direction in snowboarding. So far, this has exactly been the case, thus I'm more than than honoured to be a part of that. Who are you going to film with this season? Anything planned yet? A lot of planning going on right now. Nothing official yet, though. Keep your eyes open…

Rosetta Space Probe Scopes Killer Pow Lines on 67P Comet... http://onboardmag.com/news/scene-news/rosetta-space-probe-scopes-killer-pow-lines-67p-comet.html http://onboardmag.com/?p=79288 Wed, 12 Nov 2014 18:17:29 +0000 Sam Oetiker Rumour has it that TGR have been in talks with Nasa to take Jeremy Jones' highly acclaimed movie trilogy to new interplanetary heights, making him the first man to score powder lines on an orbiting comet. Ok, not really. We did however, stumble upon these actual photos shot by the Rosetta 'Space Probe' (GoProbe?) , of the 67P comet that is currently caught up in orbit around our sun. They're pretty damn mind blowing when you think about it, and not just because it looks like there are some killer looking lines ON A FLIPPING COMET. The comet, officially designated 67P/Churyumov–Gerasimenko, was the final destination of the Rosetta space probe, which launched in 2004 and landed on 67P on 12th November 2014 (which is today if you hadn't noticed!), making it the first spacecraft ever to successfully land on a comet - a crazy impressive feat, considering the thing is orbiting at an Earth shattering speed of 55,000 kmph... Sadly for those pow lines, there were zero snowboards or Jeremy Jones' on board. Of course, this isn't the first time that the idea of space boarding has been casually bandied about in the snowboard media, with an interesting video from Nasa surfacing a year or two ago that perturbed to the possibility of sliding across Mars on blocks of dry ice, which, technically isn't snowboarding at all, but whatever. While it's still a far cry for cometboarding to actually go down in the near future, considering Red Bull paid a guy enough to plummet back to Earth from the outer reaches of the atmosphere (i.e. Space), we wouldn't say it's totttally out of the question. So Jeremy. For those who are dying to set foot on the mountains again, we have some good news: The ski resort Obergurgl-Hochgurgl has already opened its doors to dedicated riders on 13. November 2014. And there’s more: The quattro Snow Park Obergurgl has been brightly polished and will be ready to present you some new features and events shortly. While other ski lifts are standing still, the season at the snow-spoilt winter sports resort Obergurgl-Hochgurgl has already started. Located in the Ötztal valley at the main Alpine ridge, it is surrounded by a breath-taking mountain panorama. From November to May, the Diamond of the Alps offers a lot of fresh powder, sunny weather and a wide-ranging offer: Freeride, freestyle, 110 kilometres of broad slopes where snow is guaranteed, and 24 ski lifts taking care of a swift transportation – that doesn’t leave much to be desired. But the best thing is yet to come: The quattro Snow Park Obergurgl starts into a new season 2014/15 after last year’s successful premiere.

Located next to the ski lift „Bruggenbodenlift“ at 2120m above sea level, the park offers a varied range of opportunities. Challenging lines lead through a forested area, offering a lot of space for creative park design. A total of 17 obstacles will be available at the quattro Snow Park Obergurgl. Let’s start in the Beginner Area for a short warm-up: a 6m rainbow butter-box, two 6m up/down butter-boxes and a 4m dance floor butter-box. You can try your first jumps on two 3m kickers and one 4m jump. If you want to get started immediately, the Medium Area will be the right choice. Several features are waiting to get extensively tested by motivated snowboarders: A lollipop jib, a 4m flat box, a 4m bench jib and, last but not least, a 4m tank jib. Fancy some airtime? No problem, you can enhance your skills on two kickers with 6-7m tables. You can look up the complete setup anytime at the park website.

As you can see, it doesn’t come as a surprise that there is going to happen a lot of stuff this season. Get close to the action, when the girls day goes down at the quattro Snow Park Obergurgl. In addition, for all the shooting stars out there we have two public shootings where you can show off your best tricks and cream off cool goodies. Again, just in time for the season start, Mother Hulda means it well with Austria´s biggest Glacier Ski Resort! The next huge load of fresh snow is on the radar within the next days and so the firing shot is being released for the upcoming freeride season 2014/15 on Stubai Glacier! The POWDER DEPARTMENT lives up it´s name and the run for untracked powder faces in the popular Freeride Eldorado close to Innsbruck starts right now! In the POWDER DEPARTMENT, freeriders and freeride novices can find the perfect backcountry and infrastructure, safety events, top equipment and of course… great loads of fresh powder!

Concerning freeriding, the Stubai Glacier is not a secret spot in a long time any more. No wonder, since no other resort is so easily accessible from Innsbruck within 45 minutes while giving a guarantee for perfect snow conditions from early October until June. Not only locals and a great number of adopted Tyroleans from all over the world know to appreciate the versatility and diversity of variants of descents in the back part of the Stubai valley. FREERIDE ELDORADO WITH PERFECT INFRASTRUCTURE With the Powder Department, also non-local backcountry fans are now able to find the perfect infrastructure for their unlimited freeride experience on Stubai Glacier. Beside info walls in the resort, an Offpiste-Map shows the right access and tracks of the 15 freeride runs with promising names such as „Cannonball“, „Thriller Flake“ or „The Wall“ away from the slopes. All those, who want to get all exact details, can download GPS-Tracks on their mobille advices, check the Powder Department Trackbooks or website www.powder-department.com for detailled information and watch videos of each and every powder run, which will get you in the right motivation, wanting to be the first up there after a great dump to draw tracks into those fabulous faces! Freeride-Checkpoints at the mountain stations „Gamsgarten“ and „Eisgrat“ provide safety instructions and the latest information about the tracks, weather, snow conditions and avalanche danger. At the Freeride-Checkpoints you can check your avalanche transceivers function and battery. Further, an Ortovox Trainingspark is permanently established at the Gamsgarten to simulate the case of emergency and the correct behaviour can be trained at any time.

SAFETY FIRST – SHOP & TEST CENTER Even, if getting started with freeriding has never been so simple before, every freerider has to be aware of the dangers in alpine terrains. After all, the Powder Department is situated on open glacier terrain with crevasses and outside the marked slopes area. For the own safety and safety of others, a safety equipment, fundamental experience and knowledge are obligatory in the backcountry. Every freerider should be equipped with well-working safety gear, consisting of a helmet and a backpack containing an avalanche transceiver, a shovel and a probe and he should naturally know how to handle his gear in case of an emergency. The Intersport Shops at the Eisgrat and Gamsgarten offer safety equipment for rent and purchase. The sportshops also serve as official Ortovox Testcenters, offering a great range of avalanche transceivers, probes and shovels for testing. Beside functional outerwear, you can find here also substitute batteries for GoPros and further useful accessories.

Ortovox safety gear is available for testing in the two sportshops at the Eisgrat and Gamsgarten. Every Friday morning, Ortovox offers safety trainings at the ORTOVOX TRAINING PARK at the Gamsgarten. Everyone can sign up for the trainings until the Thursday before. EVENTS, CAMPS & COURSES All those, who do not feel confident in the backcountry yet or who would like to learn more about freeriding and risk management, can sign up for one of the Powder Department camps or courses. KBR: King Cobra FULL MOVIE http://onboardmag.com/videos/full-movies/kbr-king-cobra-full-movie.html http://onboardmag.com/?p=79134 Tue, 11 Nov 2014 11:28:29 +0000 Sam Oetiker 'King Cobra' is KBR's 10th movie, and it's easily the best one yet. Click play to watch Finnish street riding at its finest. The KBR crew have been at the forefront of Finnish (and on a broader level, European) urban snowboarding for the best part of a decade now, and their 10th movie 'King Cobra' is quite possibly their best effort to date.
The season ended up being an adventure which all of us will remember for a lifetime. We are extremely proud that we made it and we can offer you our tenth movie KING COBRA. Take your time, turn up the volume and enjoy the movie!
Featuring a slew of well known names and bright eyed up-and-comers, 'King Cobra' is a true movie made by snowboarders, for snowboarders. If you're looking for flashy gimmicks, dramatic voiceovers and Red Bull helicopters, you won't be finding them here. What you will witness if you click play is a crew of dudes who live and breathe snowboarding, who, despite the challenging winter conditions in Europe last season, got out there and logged some truly a-grade stuff. And even though the guys are taking a break this season, we know they will be back soon and stronger than ever. We couldn't be more stoked that these guys are the current face of Finnish street riding. Featured riders: Snowboarding by Petrus Koskinen, Toni Kerkelä, Niko Länsiö, Janne Lipsanen, Elias Veijola, Teo Konttinen, Antti Jussila, Niels Schack, Jani Sorasalmi, Sami Luhtanen, Zakke & Friends. This is KBR's 10th snowboarding movie. The season 2013-2014 was a really hard one because of the worst snow conditions in northern Europe we have ever witnessed. We had to travel up north to Finnish Lapland countless times to get things done. Some of the riders went for a long trip to Canada where a lot of stuff was done with the french ripper Niels Schack who was a new addition to the crew. We also managed to make a trip to the Alps to get some backcountry shots for the movie. The season ended up being an adventure which all of us will remember for a lifetime. We are extremely proud that we made it and we can offer you our tenth movie KING COBRA. Take your time, turn up the volume and enjoy the movie! A film by Petrus Koskinen ]]>

The first Blue Parks Euro Camp at Dachstein is a wrap and proved to be a full-on success for everyone involved... From October 27th to November 2nd the snow park high up on the Dachstein glacier in Austria was crowded with shred-heads thirsty to improve their snowboarding skills. Of course we didn't want to miss out on the all the fun times going down and swapped the office chair for the t-bar for a day. Arriving on site we could instantly feel the good vibes from the campers who had become homies in no time and pushed each other upon learning new tricks and giving it their all.

There were a couple of groms with potential for a bright future in the world of professional snowboarding as well as campers who snowboarded just for the love of it and wanted to get better when cruising the slopes. They were all given good tips from Kalle and the rest of the coaches, who made time for everyone that needed help and advice. Much to the campers contentment the rest of the Vans team stopped by to hang out with them and pass on some of their experience. Cheryl Maas, Will Smith, Markus Keller and Sami Luhtanen spend some good times and seemed to be enjoying the day with the rest of the crew. One of the highlights was the photo shoot with Markus Fischer that went down on a small jump, where they got a first glimpse at what it's like to work together with a professional photog and put in some effort to get a good image out of it. Check out the gallery to see some of their shots!

Glaciers can be unpredictable and Dachstein is no exception, but when the whiteout hit, Kalle and his team had the snake run prepared for the campers and the Vans team to razz down and race each other. When it came to building a kicker, everyone had to lend a hand and it was done in no time to be sessioned with some serious front- and backflipping. There was plenty of programme off the slopes too, skate sessions, movie screenings and even a Halloween party to keep the crowd entertained. It proved to be a fun week with a mellow and really chill vibe, everyone got along and pushed each other to raise the riding level. We surely can't wait for the next edition of the Blue Parks Euro Camp! Until then, hit up their Facebook page with a like, because they got plenty more stuff in store for you over the season. Next up for example is the Blue Parks Kids Tour..

Join them! If you’re reading this then chances are you love snowboarding…whether carving a piste or sliding a rail, hitting kickers or hiking for powder turns…the joy we get from the simple act of sliding on snow is unmistakable. Snowboarding is obviously about the love of riding, but its also about much than the physical act of riding, it’s about traveling, about being in the mountains, spending time with friends and like minded folk from all over the world. One of the most memorable experiences we’ve had that combine these things have been in Japan – travelling to new places, experiencing wildly different culture, meeting amazingly friendly people, eating incredible food…and riding epic powder After a number of trips to Japan to shred the legendary powder in Niseko over the past few years the Dragon Lodge crew are this year planning another trip. Once again it’ll be hosted by local guiding company Ezon Snow whose local knowledge on and off the hill is second to none.

Rocking out with Gentem sticks
The plan: Ezon Snow is the guiding company run by Dragon Lodge co-founder Owain Bassett who has been living, riding and guiding in Niseko for the last 10 years, so setting this trip up will reunite the original lodge crew. With lodge co-founder and owner John Bassett leading the group alongside with long time lodge manager and all round powder ripper Will Hughes the plan is to help our powder quest crew to get the most out of their trip - the best riding each day depending on snow conditions which Owain's local knowledge will guarantee. John & Will's lodge hospitality experience, and knowledge of the town picked up on previous trips, to help make sure the crew get the best and fullest Japanese cultural experience off the snow. We will pick you up each day, head to the chosen powder stash for that day. The selection of little resorts in the Niseko area are a little spread out, so having our own van for the week will ensure we can get to wherever the snow's best that day. Wherever we choose, be it magical Moiwa, gate accessed side-country in Niseko, night-time powder sessions or a snowshoe hike or split-board mission into the backcountry, we'll be sure to get the best snow each day that the conditions allow. You'll be staying in a great 3 bedroom house in the Niseko Country Resort just a short drive from Niseko village, with a free shuttle bus service - perfect for shops, restaurants and night time activities! We'll also take you to the best places to eat, drink, shop...and also to experience the hot spring Onsens after riding! The 7 day trip, with 6 full days guiding is the basic package - if you want to stay longer we can arrange the accommodation for that with added days either side of our week. We can also advise on best flights, weather straight to Sapporo (usually via Seoul, Hong Knog or Tokyo) or with a stopover in Tokyo to experience that side of Japan too, which we've always done on previous trips and can thoroughly recommend. KB & Tor will take your breath away. Top Gun approved.
Kevin Bäckström and Tor Lundström are known for causing quite the stir in snowboarding's tiny universe, be it because of their sweet riding that features plenty of style and sometimes also by feeding the press with one or the other scandal. Whatever they do though, they do it right. We tried to get to the bottom of things and see why the web series surrounding their lives - BYNDxMDLS - is successful as ever.

What a trip! What a way to kick off your Monday! K2 Snowboarding have put out a killer road trip edit featuring Tim Eddy, Shaun McKay and co. blitzing around the US in search of good times. Expect silly hats, pipe slashes, backflips, team shredding and much more in this clip that's filled with good vibes and high fives. This right here is what snowboarding is all about! Outdoors is where fresh air combines with deep toe side carves and front side spins, where side hits come alive and the word “method” takes on a deeper meaning than that taught by a teacher or boss who’s cooped up inside. In the elements, not of Periodic Table kind, we find ourselves rejuvenated and free. So we gather friends and colleagues, snowboards and skateboards, some hot dogs and shitty road snacks. We’re headed for the horizon because adventure is what we’re after. In RV’s we drink day old brew and spit sunflower seeds through the night in search of the destination, which is really anywhere we want to stop. Zigzaging our way from Seattle to Mt. Bachelor, Buhl, ID and on to Park City, UT we find ourselves what some may consider lost but we know to be found. The goal is to partyboard, strengthen friendships while inviting others along the way and do anything but sit inside. The mountain air is what keeps us alive. Super fun team-based shredding from one of the heaviest line ups of international riders in recent memory! Rather than going the super-slick, super high-end production route, Nitro Snowboards opted to continue the momentum that they brought with their last movie 'Hyped!', focusing on making snowboarding look more fun than riding a unicorn through a shopping mall (pretty damn fun then). Bringing together the undeniable snowboarding talents of their extended international team - the likes of Eero Ettala, Benny Urban, Markus Keller, Sven Thorgren, Anna Gasser and Bryan Fox, we could have told you three years ago that the riding in this would be great. What really stands out here is the overwhelming sense of team camaraderie and good times that Nitro have managed to manufacture, turning the Bad Seeds from standard team movie affair into an altogether more inspiring piece. Nitro Snowboards is proud to present The Bad Seeds, a snowboard video for all snowboarders. This year, we have travelled around the world in search of good times with our best friends and only our snowboards to get us there. We rode in places like Salt Lake City, Montreal, Sweden, Russia, and even the Himalayas, but throughout this adventure, we realized that as long as we are strapped in, we are going to have a good time. The Bad Seeds stands for a group of individuals who enjoy living a life outside the norm that society has set. They snowboard how they want, all day - everyday. The idea of this movie was to capture how these guys ride when they are together and just snowboarding for fun, not necessarily for capturing the best trick on the biggest feature. Snowboarders will always push themselves and amazing things happen, but there are also a lot of fun situations along the way. Check out their Austrian Autumn above and read on for an interview with the boys. British rider Jonny Pickup and Finnish boss Joonas Eloranta are two friends from very different walks of life, who met teaching kids up at Folgefonna's summer park a couple years back. They dropped a super sick Scandinavian Summer edit a few months back, and hit up Austria this fall to continue the stoke. We caught up with the boys to find out a little more about the project:

How did the three of you meet?

Joonas: I met Jonny first time two years ago in Folgefonna. We rode a bit together back then but it didn’t really lead to anything. Last summer we met again because both of us worked there at this snowboarding camp and we shared same room for a month. That’s how we were actually forced to bond but gladly it kind of happened naturally anyways. Eventually I became very good friends with Jonny. Austrian-Autumn-3x-Tailblock Jonny: Sparrow I have known for a while, and I asked him to join us on the trip as he's always a liability and thats great for a snowboard trip! aha

What brought you to Austria this fall?

Jonny: I have spent a lot of time in Austria snowboarding in the winter, but have never really been in the Autumn so was hyped to check it out. We looked at going to a few other places, but Hintertux Glacier seemed to have the most snow, and the best park for that time of year. Austrian-Autumn-cross-mountain Joonas: We were really surprised how great our Scandinavian summer video turned out and how people actually liked it. It felt like we should keep doing similar kind of videos since we really share same vision and we both enjoy filming. Austrian-Autumn-hug-joonas Austrian-Autumn-lake

What was your favourite moment of the trip?

Jonny: Ahaha my favourite moment is definitely a weird one! On a down day we walked up to a restaurant that overlooks Maryhofen, when we where near the top we all get a little bit competitive about who was out in front and started racing, but just joking around. However, on the way back down for some reason we all start getting seriously competitive about who was in the lead. The chilled afternoon walk we set out on soon turned into a full sprint down the the steepest, rockiest mountain path you have ever seen. Everyone was out of breath, hungover, and dying with laughter, i couldn't see properly because i had tears in my eyes. It was for sure one of the highlights for me! joonas-eloranta-skate-front-rock Joonas: Being strapped in for the first time. It’s just the feeling everybody knows and nothing beats it. Although that line in the edit where I snake a bunch of skiers felt pretty damn great too.

Any crazy shit happen?

Jonny: Yeah we went the Gastof Zillertal for a karaoke night, which soon got out of hand fast. A few crazy things went down for sure. Austrian-Autumn-cows Joonas: On the first day I left my snowboard pants at the guesthouse and realized it when we had driven to Hintertux parking lot. I had to rent myself the ugliest pants ever for 13 euros and that’s a rip off considering how the pants looked hahah!

Can we expect anything else from you guys this winter?

Jonny: Yeah, i plan to go to finland where Joonas is from and film a project there with him, it will be more street orientated, whilst looking into what it's like to be in Scandinavia over winter . Hopefully Sparrow gets involved again! Sparrow-Knox Jonnas: Yeah for sure! Just keep scrolling Onboard’s page every now and then and at some point there will be our Nordic winter episode as well. It’s going to an all-urban episode from cold streets of Finland served with our flavor.

Stubai Prime Park Sessions 2014 Are Going Off! http://onboardmag.com/news/european-news/stubai-prime-park-sessions-2014-going.html http://onboardmag.com/?p=78933 Fri, 07 Nov 2014 10:50:55 +0000 Sam Oetiker Check out some shots and words from the 2014 Stubai Prime Park Sessions, which has brought many of the world's best snowboarders to the glacier to train on some of the best jumps currently available to ride in the world right now.

On October 28th last week, the 2014 edition of the Stubai Prime Park Sessions started with perfect conditions and beautiful sunshine on top of the Stubai Glacier, Austria. This year again, many of the world’s best snowboarders and freeskiers gathered to get ready for the upcoming season and ride the excellent snowpark.

The most outstanding attribute of the Stubai Prime Park Sessions is the uncompromisingly high quality of the snowpark setup. No efforts were spared and compared to the previous year it was even possible to further expand the Prime Park for 2014. The park awaits the riders with the already familiar Pro Line from the Moreboards Stubai Zoo snowpark, which is open to all riders without any restrictions for this year. Adding to this, there is a completely new line, designed specifically to meet the needs of the Prime Park Sessions athletes.

This line consists of three additional jumps. The first kicker combines the shape of a classic Slopestyle jump with the impressive proportions of a film shoot kicker and enables spectacular tricks while being very safe to ride. The two following jumps focus completely on progression. Their “step over” shape ensures minimum impact at significant airtime and thus allows safe practice conditions for all athletes.

Leading snowboarders like Roope Tonteri (FIN), Staale Sandbech (NOR), Sebbe De Buck (BEL) as well as Sina Candrian (SUI) and Anna Gasser (AUT) were not only showing off many of their stylish tricks, but could also work successfully on new ones. You can follow them daily on www.primeparksessions.com. In effect, the 2014 Prime Park together with the Moreboards Stubai Zoo, offers one of the world’s best pre-season terrain parks for all riding levels.

The package of the Prime Park Sessions is further completed with a supplemental choice of off-snow activities and the ideally located accommodation of the athletes in Neustift in the Stubai valley. The Stubai Prime Park Sessions continue until November 16th, 2014. ]]>

Air+Style³: Beijing, Innsbruck, Los Angeles

Innsbruck/Los Angeles, 17. October 2014 Three cities, three legendary stadiums, three unique events: Winter 2014/2015 will start off a new era in the history of Air + Style. For the first time, in addition to the two contests in Beijing (12.05/06.2014) and Innsbruck (01.16/17.2015), there will be a grand finale: The Air + Style in Los Angeles (02.21/22.2015) in and around the famous Rose Bowl stadium in Pasadena. Andrew Hourmont´s long cherished idea of a world tour with a tour winner can finally be realized in the home base of Shaun White. A 450.000 US$ prize money and the chance to be “Champions of the Champions” is attracting a lot of world class athletes. In Beijing and Innsbruck 24 athletes will battle for 100,000 US$ and the 16 slots in the finals in LA. The first stop of the Air + Style Tour in Beijing is the incredible setup in the architectural masterpiece National stadium “Birds Nest” and will be the destination for a two days top-class snowboarding event. 24 athletes will participate in the qualification on Friday. 16 of them qualify for the final on Saturday, accompanied by DJs and two live music performances. In Bergisel Stadium Innsbruck, the birthplace of Air + Style, the qualification will be on Friday Jan 16: 24 athletes will fight for the 16 starting positions in the main contest. For the very first time families with children from 6-14 years old can experience the legendary event for free. The program on Saturday starts at 3.30pm: just before the top 16 final, Shaun White´s success coach Bud Keene will hold a training session. Two bands and a top DJ will provide the perfect sound. One of the top acts is already confirmed: the German rapper CRO. As Shaun White also is a pro skateboarder there will be some skateboarding action in Innsbruck: The WUB skate dome in Innsbruck will be open free of charge for the public with contests, workshops and DJs from Thursday (January 15 2015) until Sunday (January 18.2015) daily from 2pm until 10pm. The tour final in Los Angeles at Rose Bowl Stadium west of LA will bring the idea of Air + Style to a whole new level. The concept mirrors the lifestyle and interests of Shaun White perfectly: heaps of sport: Snowboarding, Skiing, Skating and BMX, finest tunes, art & fashion, technology and food. A kids zone will allow even the youngest to try snowboarding in LA. For latest information on program, athletes, bands and tickets visit the website: www.air-style.com ]]>

Check Mario Käppeli, Thomas Feurstein, Sebi Geiger and many more bossing it in Europe and beyond! snowboarate 1 Sebi Geiger and his homies have been on their grind again over the past season, and have put together one of the strongest Different Direction movies to date. With a heavy line up of riders including international men of mystery Cam Pierce, Forest Bailey, Kas Lemmens and more, the crew travelled as far as the North Americas and back, scouting for the deepest powder and the most creative street spots. snowboarate 2 The result is 'Snowboarate': just over 14 minutes of killer snowboarding, interspersed with some great tunes, beautiful shots and all round good vibes, and this is definitely one that we will be lacing our boots to this winter.
Snowboarding collaboration. Take it, eat it, let it shine. No matter if it´s cheesy blue, deep white, spooky gray or sad - four straps connect. Few more steps earlier it starts simply, getting out. In a way to smile, we snowboarate.

Do you like the overall direction that snowboard movies are going in these days?

I think there are some really good snowboard movies out there but we're here to give the people something new to watch. We just don't want that snowboard movies are going to be boring.

What did you set out to achieve with the new movie 'Snowboarate'?

The main goal of the movie was to capture the good moments you have in snowboarding and make something weird but fun to watch out of it.

What is the name 'Snowboarate' all about?

I actually don't know, it was the thought of the brain behind Different Direction Sebastian Madlener.

Was there one stand out trick or moment you remember from the filming for the movie?

The whole season with that awesome crew was just insane! It would be unfair to just name one moment.

Give us one sentence on why everyone should check out 'Snowboarate'!

Don't watch it, rather go snowboarding instead!! ]]>

SUPER OFFICIAL UNOFFICIAL PRESS RELEASE: 686 JOURNEYS TO THE COSMOS TO LAUNCH FOREST BAILEY’S SIGNATURE COSMIC COLLECTION

LOS ANGELES (October 10, 2014) – 686 Technical Apparel safely returned today from a journey to the cosmos to announce the launch of Forest Bailey’s signature Cosmic Collection. The Cosmic Collection landed safely from the innermost regions of Forest’s creative brain and is now available from dealers worldwide.

After rising through the am and pro ranks with 686 over years, this is Forest’s first signature collection with the brand. The Cosmic Collection, consisting of a highly waterproof and technical jacket and pants outfit designed towards backcountry riding, a less technical and more street styled jacket and overalls outfit, two color ways of mitts, a hooded flannel and a separate waterproof hood was 100% conceived and managed by Forest himself.

“686 gave me a chance to design outerwear that I actually want to wear. The Cosmic collection emerged…” explained Forest

"We've had the honor to work with some of the best athletes in the world but have never done anything like this before. There's only one Forest Bailey, and his Cosmic Collection has proven to be more successful (and weirder) than ever imagined," noted 686 Founder and current CEO, Mike West.

686 Team Manager, Patrick McCarthy, chimed in, “I have had the pleasure of knowing Forest Bailey for ten years now. When I first met him, he came straight from Vermont with a pencil thin mustache and more pure skill and talent than I had ever seen. He has taken the game over in his own way. His approach to life and snowboarding is something special, whether hitting huge jumps in the backcountry or camping along the coast, Forest always has the same carefree happy vibe. I’m so proud of my man Forest Bailey as he continues his rise into the Cosmos. I will always be down to ride co-pilot with you brother!”

Forest Bailey’s Cosmic Collection is available worldwide from authorized 686 dealers and online at 686.com.

Here's what we made of it when we featured the boots in our recent Product Guide:

adidas have been making footwear for over 60 years, so you can be sure they know a thing or two about keeping your feet sweet. Following their debut last season, this winter they drop a killer new premium model, the Boost, which they say revolutionises cushioning in shred sneakers. Their innovative Boost foam – that stuff looking like polystyrene – has been cooked up so it provides increased energy return, which improves edge-to-edge response, while still remaining super cushioned and comfy. It’s also three times more resistant to temperature change than regular EVA cushioning. Other pimp features include a Torsion System shank, dualzone speedlace, heat moldable liner with Merino wool, and Recco reflectors.

€500.00 And this is the skinny from the brand themselves: In our second season, we are proud to introduce a cushioning technology that will revolutionize snowboarding boots. The BOOST (TM) technology provides a springy and responsive cushioning to energize your riding with more efficiency and maximum comfort in any condition, on any terrain. The BOOST (TM) boot offers endless energy return through an industry-first midsole material with dynamic edge-to-edge control and unsurpassed responsiveness. BOOST (TM) foam also lends an ultra-comfy ride that is 3X more resistant to temperature change than traditional EVA foam cushioning. adidas boost boot 2015 “The material itself is a solid granular TPU that is literally blown up and turned into thousands of small energy capsules. With their unique cell structure, these capsules store and unleash energy. It’s unrivaled by anything in the market. It’s truly unique to the snowboarding world.” - Mike Fox, adidas Snowboarding, Global Category Manager NOMAD 2/3 : EN ROUTE En Route is the second installment of the Nomad Series of films from adidas Snowboarding. Nico takes it back to his roots in the pipe at Mt. Hood.
The fine team over at Boardsportsource just dropped an interview with the man himself Mr Nicolas Müller. Interview with Nico are always a thing to behold, and we've got to say, this one is pretty darned juicy. We've picked out a few of the highlights, but you can read the interview in full here.

So Nicolas, you’re in the middle of making your very own snowboard movie. Shooting for yourself must be great – no tour schedule to stick to?

Yeah totally. I mean I used to enjoy going to places for events, but now I really enjoy just seeing what happens and if I need to go to Canada next week – then I do it. It’s just a nice privilege to be able to do that. But for sure, I’m going to be dedicating all of this season to my film project.

It’s a view of some people in the industry that Nike came into the snowboard market and then left once they realised there wasn’t exponential growth to be had year on year as there is in their other markets such as football, running, tennis etc.

I think that with every company it’s down to the people who run it. The Nike Snowboarding people were just completely awesome – they are snowboarders, but decisions were made higher up and things had to change. But, I wouldn’t say they came into the snowboard industry to take what they could get from it. I think they just realised it wasn’t going to work out for a company of their size. And you know, when I talk to retailers – Nike boots are always sold out, which means they were making great boots! And for me, I still get support from Nike for the next couple of years until the end of my contract.
Nico ponders snowboardings existential questions.
Nico ponders snowboardings existential questions.

I’m a snowboarder and I want to be on top of my game and I want to give everything to snowboarding and to the amazing sponsors I have.

And so, what about Burton?

My contract’s coming to an end. So we’ll see what happens there. You know, if ways were to part I could never say it was them, or it was me. For me, I always made sure that nothing would come between me and snowboarding. I’ve always wanted to snowboard for the rest of my life, and so I’ve never done anything too risky. And also, I’m a sustainable guy and I’m looking for a long-term relationship with a brand. But right now, I can’t say what’s going to happen.
Nico pulls a fast one on photographer Oli Gagnon
Nico pulls a fast one on photographer Oli Gagnon
What do you think of when you think of snowboarding in 2014/2015? What I’m planning to do with my film is explain how someone gets a hold of what’s going on in snowboarding. And this has everything to do with social media, websites etc. For example, everything you watch starts with a logo graveyard and everything is so similar. I get bored of this, and I’m the biggest fan of snowboarding. So, how is a normal guy supposed to be attracted to this? We’re going to focus a little more on the content, and how we put across the rad feeling that snowboarding gives us. I want it to be more about the art form, and less about how great people think they are.
Thanks to the Olympics everything has become all about how many likes and hits you can get, I want snowboarding to go back to the art form. Less is more – and for me, this is what I want to focus on.

Taco Trip 'Buffet' Full Movie with Ludwig Lejkner, Jonathan Lindhe, Zebbe Landmark and Friends http://onboardmag.com/videos/full-movies/taco-trip-buffet-full-movie-ludwig-lejkner-jonathan-lindhe-zebbe-landmark-friends.html http://onboardmag.com/?p=78206 Sun, 26 Oct 2014 18:06:39 +0000 Sam Oetiker We're proud to present the first full length movie from Taco Trip - featuring Swedih heavy hitters Ludwig Lejkner, Jonathan Lindhe and Zebbe Landmark, tearing shit up with their homies. If you were one of the people who were sad that there was no Random Bastards movie this year, don't miss this one! After a dropping a series of webisodes last season, Taco Trip logged enough footage for a full-length movie, and if you're down with heavy Scandi street-boarding, this is a must watch. Featuring Ludde, Jonathan and Zebbe, along with Niels Schack, Sparrow Knox, Erik Karlsson, Niklas Mattsson and friends, this is a movie made by snowboarders, for snowboarders, and every minute of it, from the opening sequence to the credit roll, captures that. Check the hype on Taco Trip from Onboard issue 147 (words: Tom Copsey): When Swedish dudes Jonathan Lindhe, Zebbe Landmark, Ludde Lejkner and filmer Dennis Ylikangas discovered they shared a common goal to ‘do something different’, joining forces was a no-brainer and Taco Trip is the result. “The basic idea is to show people what we’re up to during the winter through the webisodes,” explains Dennis, “have as much fun as possible and then save all the A-shots for the movie, Buffet, that will drop for free this fall.” With an initial core of Lejkner, Landmark and Lindhe taking care of the action, they soon added the formidable street smarts of Erik Karlsson to the roster and swept up Niels Schack, Sparrow Knox and Niklas Mattsson for a couple of shoots too. ““We invited Niels and Sparrow for a trip to northern Sweden which was ballin, and they killed it! We also have Erik Karlsson, he got some mad hammers, and Niklas will have some shots in the movie too – he killed the big jump in Åre. Everybody’s got different, SICK styles and everybody is hyped so it’s pretty damn sick crew,” grins Dennis of Buffet’s roster.” Dennis was locked away editing when we spoke, so we were curious glean any info on the direction Buffet will take. “I’m a huge fan of all the old Technine movies,” he confirms, “and I get a lot of inspiration from all sorts of music but hip-hop in particular”. Indeed, from their teaser there’s a definite taste of the old F.O.D.T. vibe – albeit with a definite Scandinavian slant – and with Buffet set to drop ‘some time in October’ you won’t have long to wait to see the real deal. Who will Buffet appeal to? “If you like good music mixed with a handful of steezy good-looking dudes on snowboards who ride big, creative spots, then you won’t be disappointed,” Dennis claims. And are their plans for a second serving? “Nothing’s written in stone,” explains Dennis, “but I don’t think Buffet is the last you’ll see from Taco Trip”. “Hopefully people will be stoked on the movie and we could get some more support, that would be sick!” ]]> Rome Snowboards: Find Snowboarding - Norway http://onboardmag.com/videos/web-series/rome-snowboards-find-snowboarding-norway.html http://onboardmag.com/?p=78200 Fri, 24 Oct 2014 17:05:48 +0000 Sam Oetiker The third and final part of Rome Snowboards' excellent 'Find Snowboarding' series is here! Watch what the crew got up to when they hit up the summer shred mecca that is Folgefonna, Norway! When Find Snowboarding was first conceptualized, there was no idea of how exactly it would end. The only thing certain was that each trip would be centered on adventure, travel and unique elements of snowboarding. The alien streets of Kazakhstan showed an unseen part of the world, ripe with snowboard possibility. The wind-tattered Aleutians taught the value of preparation and patience. The open, long-standing glaciers of Norway… well that's a different story. To truly finish off this project, Will Lavigne and Thomas Delfino hit the open roads of Europe on a journey from Munich to Oslo. From there they met up with Stale Sandbech, Toni Kerkelä and Len Jorgensen to hit the Fonna glacier. From Kazakhstan to Alaska to Norway, Find Snowboarding is a celebration of all things that are pure and good about snowboarding; traveling, the adventure, the sensation, having fun with your friends and exploring the possibilities of being strapped in. Find Snowboarding: NORWAY is the story of snowboarders traveling to go snowboarding. Once you put your deck down, strap in and take that heel-side carve it doesn't matter where it is because at that point snowboarding has been found. So enjoy the last full film from the Rome Snowboards Find Snowboarding project and get stoked because snowboarding is the shit. ]]> Snowboarder Falls Over 40 Feet to Flat | Slam of The Week http://onboardmag.com/videos/web-series/snowboarder-falls-40-feet-flat-slam-week.html http://onboardmag.com/?p=78182 Fri, 24 Oct 2014 14:05:06 +0000 Sam Oetiker Brett Butcher goes way too far right on a hip feature at Superpark and falls around 40 feet to flat. This one is rough. This week's Slam Of The Week is an oldie but we're digging it out of the archives for the sheer scale of it. When you take into consideration that Brett Butcher broke his back and blew his sternum doing this, it's one of the most brutal slams we've ever seen. We're pleased that Brett walked away to snowboard another day, as others certainly haven't been as lucky. The lesson to be learned here is that the line you take going into hip features is absolutely critical. Travel too far out and your asking for trouble. Check the full interview on what Brett went through over at The Snowboard Realms "My injuries from the fall where a compressed L1 vertebrae and a blown out sternum. My back broke on impact. Once I hit, my body went numb. Everything hurt. Friends where by my side instantly helping me out and Ski patrol was close too follow. They advised me to get a ride down in the toboggan and take an ambulance to the hospital. I had never been on a toboggan ride nor have I been in an ambulance and I was determined to avoid it. Ski Patrol was very reluctant to let a friend take me to the hospital but after some discussion they agreed and told me I had to sign a waver to release me from their care. By this time I had been laying in the snow for a good 10 minutes and everything was sore. Felt like I got hit by a truck. This is when things took a turn for the worst. There was a ton of pressure in my chest from the fall and as I sat up, the pressure released blowing out my sternum. I instantly started to freak out thinking I was dying. My chest was gurgling and I was having trouble breathing. Ski Patrol jumped into action and raced me down to the ambulance."
