When: Sat 22nd of March 2008

Where: Lech, Austria

Kiwi Rob Mitchell

Lech had the honors to play host for the 8th Edition of the Völkl Nice and Landed contest. The park was especially revamped for the contest, proving to be a monumental task. It had been dumping for days and the shape crew had to re-work the park a whole three times. That’s right folks! The life of a park shaper does not consist of only shredding!

Chris Garside

Saturday saw the juniors give their best in hopes of qualifying for the main contest on Sunday. Paul Dreher from Vorarlberg, Austria was the ubergrom that day showing perfectly executed Bs 7′s that were more than impressive. As darkness decended upon the mountains, it came time to throw down the night session over the big booter, which got all dressed up with halogen lights and other gadgetry. The riders were into the kicker’s shape and started sending it for a full one and a half hours. Alex Schmaltz was killing it alongside the two boys from down-under, Mark Anderson and Rob Mitchell. The riding level was high and the crowd got to see some super styled Cab 5′s, 7′s and Sw 7′s. In the end it was the German Schmaltz that was able to secure the victory of the night session.

Patrick Huber

The next day saw whiteout conditions and more snow. The shape crew must’ve loved it, as the poor dudes had to re-shape the whole shebang once again. The course was a little slower than the day before due to the snowmasses that had fallen, hindering the in-run’s of the kickers. The riders did not seem to mind and adapted to the conditions quick. It was the day of local Austrian Patrick Huber to shine, who just came from the overall win of the ‘Snowpark Tour’ on the Kitzsteinhorn. He was Bs Rodeoing off of every obstacle that crossed his path, including a Bs Rodeo 7 off of the corner into the stratosphere. His riding was so convincing that the judges decided to award him with the ‘most impressive overall rider’ of the weekend award.
