After two second places, Rudi Kröll (AUT) from Zillertal valley finally managed to take victory at the legendary CHECK THE RIPPER contest at the SNICKERS NORDPARK SESSIONS 2009 presented by Atomic, Sandy Gecek (AUT) won the female snowboarders’ comp.

On Thursday, a blue bird sky welcomed the riders to the SNICKERS NORDPARK SESSIONS 2009 presented by Atomic. The event began with the Skyline Expression Session at the Skyline Park and the SNICKERS Highest Air Session at the quarter-pipe. Wolle Beer (AUT) was the rider of the day: he showed the highest air of the session and was also chosen the most impressive rider winning over Sani
Alibabic
(AUT) and Lars Oesterle (GER).

On Friday night, the floodlight event Hit da Pipe took place at the super-pipe of the Skyline Park. As it was snowing heavily, the organizers decided to do just a relaxed jam session without a judging panel. A lot of old warheads, young rippers and wellknown legends enjoyed the amicable session in the pipe.

Check The Ripper: „Mission accomplished!“

On Saturday, the legendary Check the Ripper event took place for the 15th consecutive year. Again, it was snowing heavily, while the participants tried to detect the best all-round rippers on skis and snowboards: at this unique contest format, they first had to ride some freestyle elements and then the unprepared, super-steep Eastern Slope. The riders had to show a mixture of freeriding and freestyle skills: they got a time bonus for their tricks on the kickers and then had to ride the freeride slope as fast as possible.

At the snowboarders’, “Ästhetiker” Rudi Kröll (AUT) wanted to finally take victory at this contest after he had been second twice. He showed a perfect Cab 900 winning him a time bonus of 11.5 seconds and was able to keep this lead up to the finish line. “Mission accomplished!” he stated afterwards. “I’m stoked that I was able to take victory at these difficult conditions with bad visibility and lots of powder. It’s cool to be the over-all winner!” Surprisingly, event organizer and freerider Tobi Örley (AUT) was the fastest at the Eastern slope and took second. David Reinthaler (AUT) was third. The trio on the podium got non-cash prizes like a Bionicon mountain bike and a surf board. Rudi Kroell also won a trip to the Chillhouse Surfcamp Bali. He will take his girlfriend Sandy Gecek (AUT) with him who won the female snowboarders’ (AUT) took third.
