When: Sun 1st of March 2009
Where: Val d’Isère, France
What a good day for the first edition of this event, presented by ROXY and Val d’Isère. 7 pro-riders, girls only, are invited for this jam session on the DC Val Park, and in the next days, for a big photoshoot.
In this group, only two French girls, Alexandra Barrère, RipCurl girl and her team mate Imperium Marion Gouwy, two Swiss shredders, Anouck Grau (Hammer and Chosen) and Anaïs Cettou (Nitro), and three English girls, the well know Our Camp Director, Gilly Seagrave, Stefani Nurding and Laura Berry, girl of the team snow RedBull.
We want this pro-girls shredding together in a off pressure day. After this slopestyle, 5 first girls will be invited to the big ValPark photoshoot, and the two first girls on the helicopter session, a very big part of park, for great images taken from the airs.
Weather forecast was pessimistic on Sunday night, but god is with us on Monday morning, a very sunny time allowed us to ride until lunch. Alex Barrère is starting first on a set up composed of a banana rail, a gone up/ down box, a 11m kicker, a 12 m kicker and (rider’s choice) a long kinked rail or another kicker-10m. Girls was shredding during one hour, Laura Berry killed the banana with 270 out, Gilly the kinked rail with tailslides, Marion is launching great bs 180 and 360. But Anaïs Cettou was really good and she take home first place, thanks to big 540… Olivier Noiret, member of the jury tell us about her “she have all her tricks, she’s easy and I love her style. All her runs was awesome !” Laura Berry, the RedBull girl, take 2nd place, with solid and creative runs. Marion Gouwy, a French Imperium Girl is a great third. She is going to make speak about her ! Anaïs win 1000€, Laura 300€, and also a ticket for helicopter shooting and Marion 200€, with an entry for the classic photoshoot (without images taken from the airs). Alexandra Barrère (4) and Anouck Grau (5) will join her on Thursday and Friday.
A great jam session, according to the girls. Alexandra explain : “That’s really cool to ride together without any pressure. In big contests like Roxy chiken jam, the goal is big so we are stressfull. Nobody talk at the start. In this type of invitational event, we’re not too much, so it’s funny and friendly. We telk about our tricks, we give and receive tips, that’s great. After the jam session and the barbecue, we improvise a free session on the wall. It’s important to be together to improve our skills in the same time of having fun. Sure that I call back some of this girls !”
