This season, the Ästhetiker crew introduced a new contest to the Tyrolean Alps: the Zillertal Välley Rälley. The Zillertal has long been a benchmark in Snowboarding, bringing out talents like Wolle Nyvelt and Werni Stock and drawing the attention of numerous international Pros to get their training done in one of its countless parks.
At the previous tour stops at the Betterpark Hintertuxer Gletscher, Hochzillertal and the Action Park Zillertal Arena, contestants collected points for the overall tour ranking at the final stop in Mayrhofen’s Penken Park, where the King, Queen and Prince of the valley were crowned. Since October, almost every month saw a tour stop in one of Zillertal’s finest snow parks. The contests were open for everybody, all that needed to be done was register, show up and ride the hell out of the parks, regardless of age and gender. Also added up to the contests were free coaching sessions and Ride Snowboards gear testing. Does that sound like a sweet weekend or what?
So when the Ästhetiker crew called, we didn’t hesitate to leave the city behind us and made our way down to beautiful Mayrhofen. Due to a slight misunderstanding with the weather gods, the main contest had to be pushed back from Saturday to Sunday, which for us meant: some epic powder turns.
Stoked out after a perfect day, we entered Mayrhofen’s number one pub Scottys for the big crowning party. If you know the Ästhetiker crew, you’re no doubt aware of the fact, that they know how to throw down insane parties so we’ll just leave it at that (some things are best kept at Scottys!)
This night only made way for Sunday’s final Valley Ralley Contest at the Vans Penken Park Mayrhofen. The sun was shining as if the snowfalls of the day before never happened. The contestants seemingly took it easier at the partying, because they were seriously throwing it down with some proper air time, diverse tricks and loads of fun on the course.
After some smooth hits on the kickers and rails, the final tour stop’s Groms winner was Talha Kalkova, who left Jan Rovensky in second and Noah Vicktor in third place. They’re already impressing at this young age and they’ll for sure step it up in the coming
years. Who knows, maybe we witnessed a future TTR Champion or Olympian riding!
In the ladies comp Martina Zollner dominated with Agnieszka Rusin coming in third and 10 year old Annika Morgan (sister of Ethan) taking home the silver medal. Yep, the Morgans are one talented family and are probably on their way to take over the world of snowboarding soon.
Jamie Trinder and Rowan Coultas battled it out for the first two places with technical rail tricks and 720s and 900s on the kickers, but in the end Jamie took the top spot. His supernice switch back 9 also earnt another trophy as the official best trick of the day. Third place went to Toms Petrusevics, while the best Grom of the day was Kris Havaux.
Finally it was time to crown the royalty of the Zillertal Välley Rälley. The crew added up all the points from the previous tour stops of the season and showered the winners with their prizes.
Czech rider Jan Rovensky now holds the official title Prince of the Valley and also gets a ticket to the Rookie World Finals in Ischgl. We’re wishing him the best of luck for the contest!
It was a close call but in the end Martina Zollner took home the Queen of the Valley. She was part of every contest stop and showed consistent performance throughout the tour.
The first official King of the Valley is Alex Walch. Being born and growing up in Mayrhofen, he for sure knows his way around Zillertal and thus had no problem leaving the other contestants behind with his solid runs. So impressed by Fabian Finley Nehring’s consistent stoke and progress over the season, the crew decided to also give out the title Supergrom of the tour. We were pretty stoked too by how naturally he threw down his tricks like it was a piece of cake. Also, turns out that the 7 year old already has his own Facebook-Like Page!
It wouldn’t be an Ästhetiker event without that extra twist in the trophies, so on top of cash, gear and WST points, they gave out beautifully hand-made carved wooden medals to the winners which was a really nice touch.
Massive thanks to the Ästhetiker crew and the lovely Pia for the awesome weekend. It was great to see such a great atmosphere and some amazing snowboarding from these guys and gals!
