Never Not, Halldor, Desiree, Gigi, Louif… This is a few of the Grand Winners last night at the 2013 Golden Reels Award Ceremony. And this is what went down so far (yes, it’s not over yet!).

Unlike some other film festivals where the Award ceremony is set on the last day of the event, The Reels has already revealed all its secrets. In fact, the Jury (Peter Line, Nico Droz, Ingo Backman, Eddie Wall, and David Benedek as head judge) has been spending all week watching the 36 selected movies to make its mind up. But this opening day at the Reels (yesterday) was also an unique occasion for the public to get close with the ‘movie stars’ of the likes, and the list of riders attending the event would be way too long to write down here (but you can see some of the names in our previous post), especially because I’m sure you can’t wait now to know who won what. But gosh I never seen so many talented riders in a same room I think! Proof is, all the nominees and winners were in the cinema to receive their accolades. Ok, so let’s do it, here they all are: nominees and winnners of the Golden Reels Awards, in each of the 11 categories.

Nike’s Never Not 1&2 is definately the great winner this year, the two edits have obviously impressed the jury – and the spectators, and splitting the content with a classic part by part (but all sick action) and a documentary part, was the winning idea. And of course the presence of Halldor in the movie is prominent, with one of those video parts that will probably mark the area (the huge gap, just insane). Gigi obtains a deserved trophy for his ability to ride the pow like no other, year after year. The Pirates are rewarded this year after maybe a little deception last year when all the spectators acclamed their flick but the trophy went to Burton’s 13. And where we were expecting the Jury’s Coup de Coeur would go to a movie (bets were on Mission Antarctic or Naturally), Benedek and the clan decided to reward a rider, which was indeed a great idea seeing how Scott Stevens does his thing and manage to come every season with a original, playful and fun to watch part. Congrats to all, and like Danny Kass said on the mic as he was hosting the show with his brother/lover Dingo: “Everybody in this room is a winner, just because you are all snowboarders”.

But the Reels is not just a film festival, it’s also a rare occasion in France to chill with all the best riders on the planet – once again, the list is just insane. The village is also reduced in size – for the good cause as it’s right by the cinema where everthing happens, with different brands showing their latest stuff (Oakley, Billabong, Ride, Von Zipper…), live TV show with all the movies presented by filmers and riders, Tanon and Beaufort’s exhibition mixing analog black & white photography and painting, a playground area and also Burton’s Riglet park for the kids to enjoy a first slide on a board.

The party went on at Pop Plage last night, and l’Arrogs and the boys surprised everybody when they anounced the star DJ of the night: the ol’ ganster – oldie but goodie – DJ Jazzy Jeff (Prince of Bel Air, for example). But it’s not because the Golden Reels award ceremony has delivered its winners, that the event is over: there’s 2 more days of screening, today and tomorow, and seeing by the people enjoying the large seats of the Decavision yesterday, let’s bet it’s going to be the same today. Oh and I think there’s another party tonight. Gosh life is hard…
