Yesterday was a big day for the unexpected over in Aspen, with Gold medals bucking the trend in both the men’s and women’s slopestyle events.
Max Parrot stepped up for the second time this weekend and snatched the gold medal with a crazy run! Holding back nothing with a hardway backside 450 in the rail section and cab triple underflip flowing into a massive off axis 1440:
Reigning champ Mark McMorris took silver with his second run but couldn’t do enough to hold on to his title – taking a pretty tough slam in his final lap.
Fair play to the dude – he gets back up pretty quick for a guy with broken ribs:
Stale Sandbech cleaned up with his final run to take bronze and his first X Games slopestyle medal with this very tidy run:
In the womens event Norwegian Silje Norendal stepped up her game in her final run to take the title and knock Jamie Anderson off her throne. She cashed in with a Todeo 720 and super clean switch back 5:
Jamie Anderson hadn’t held back either, getting tech in the top section of her first run and putting down some solid 720s – she was just pipped to the post with .44 of a point between her and gold.
Spencer O’Brien didn’t disappoint either, with a strong wallride and 720 to take bronze:
So it might not have been what we expected, but still a sick turnout – props to all the guys and girls out there throwing down. Next stop: Superpipe
