When: Thu 1st of January 1970
Where: Les Deux Alpes, France
This edition of Mondial du snowboard in Les Deux Alpes hosted for the 3rd time the Burton Highway to Rail. On that crowded week-end in the sunny French Alps, more than 3600 were tested by the public, and around 4000 people attended the Burton rail contest.
With the likes of Nico Droz, Eero Ettala, Dmitri Fesenko, Sami Saarenpaa, Morgan Lefaucheur, Mathieu Crepel, Kareem El Rafie or Aymeric Thonin, we knew the show was going to be grand. But the surprise came from an almost unknown rider, the Norwegian outsider Ulrik Baderstscher, out from the qualifying session the day before. 50-50 to frontflip was the winning trick for him. But we saw some really crazy action that night: BS 5-0 from Nico Droz, FS blunt boardslide revert from Eero, or switch BS 720 over the rails from Mat Crepel, which left the judge undecided for a while about how to score him…
1st - Ulrik Baderstscher: 1000 € in cash, a bottle of champagne and an 18 carats New Era jewel.
2nd – Mathieu Crepel:500 € in cash, a bottle of champagne and an 18 carats New Era jewel.
3rd – Eero Ettala: 300 € in cash and a bottle of champagne.
