High 5 - Kazuhiro Kokubo

Tom Copsey Tom Copsey

The Burton party bus rolled through Munich the other night, so we collared Japanese ruler Kazuhiro Kokubo for a quick High 5. Read on for the coolest cat in snowboarding’s top 5 riders, tricks and more.

If anyone ever embodied the term ‘Naturally Cool’, it’s Kazu. The kid’s got so much steeze on a snowboard it’s unreal and for a perfect example of his riding you just gotta hunt down a copy of Standing Sideways to watch his opener. Though he’s better-known for his pipe skills, this part has only 1 shot from the stunt ditch and the rest is either saurian-sized park features or heavy, heavy backcountry spots. It’s no coincidence he’s never been so stoked on a part.

We sat down with Kazu to interview him for the mag but it quickly became apparent that while his English is way better than a couple years back, it would still be best to get a translator involved. Nevertheless, we hit him up with some quick fire 5s to find out where his head’s at. He didn’t say much, but he sure thought about his answers…
