The biggest resort in the Pyrennees welcomed the 3rd edition of Grandvalira Total Fight Masters of Freestyle from March 29th til April 1st, it’s the biggest freestyle event in southern Europe and also part of the TTR. Some of the world’s best riders from throughout Europe, America, and Australasia together with the much-respected International Burton team left their mark at snowpark El Tarter with a spectacular freestyle show.

The craziest competition in the Pyrenees

Snowboarding training and the first qualifications took place on Thursday and Friday. Outstanding riders from all over the globe proved their technical creativity in a perfectly shaped park specially designed for this occasion. On Saturday, sixteen of them competed at the Expression Session and only eight qualified for the Total Fight. On Sunday, the heavy snowfall didn’t let the freeskiers follow the stablished rules so they all had to compete in only two runs. Only eight qualified and the first became the winner.

The Snowboard Master of Freestyle comes from Finland

Finnish rider Jaakko Ruha became Master of Freestyle of this third edition. He surprised the audience at Snowpark El Tarter with his incredible style and convinced the judges with a sick run on the pipe line, a 1080 on the big kicker and backside rodeo. Very close to him, Argentinean rider Mati Radaeli got second after two identical runs on the big air line: huge backside 7, crossbone on the step-up and rails line. Third place went to Uk and Andorra local Jamie Philip, one of the only riders to hit the big air in switch.

Snowpark for the best

The slope style at Snowpark el Tarter will allow participants to choose between 2 lines. The first line starts with a gigantic Big Air followed by a spectacular 25 step double rail that leads to the second line with a 15m. step up. Here the riders will find the third line with a kicker and several boxes and a kink rail. Finally, a more technical line with a perfect halfpipe followed by a 15m. kicker over a Red Bull Hammer. Machines and shapers have been working hard for 5 days, preparing the terrain for this unique slope style in the Pyrenees.
