With a nice tan from the last stop of the Burton AM Tour, the crew packed their bags and moved down South. Adelboden, sunny and warm, inspired the first spring feelings in the Team. Now Andorra…! We were expecting pleasant “t-shirt weather” and some nice baking under a hot sun… But along came Grandvalira!

On Saturday, 7 February Grandvalira hosted the southernmost stop of the Burton AM Tour 2008/09. This Swatch TTR2 Star Event was visited by 39 riders from Andorra, Spain, France and the United Kingdom. Its location in the Pyrenees between France and Spain usually gives the ministate of Andorra warmer weather than the North. The reality was quite different: freezing temperatures, stormy winds and hard snowfall during the build-up of the park. All shaping and “kicker licking” was impossible…

The contest day started as the preparation day ended. White, whiter, the whitest! Our whole organisation team got kicked in the asses by the weather for two days, but we kicked back… at the end the hard work paid off! With the beginning of the qualification the sky cleared upand the good visibility made the shredding of the park sweet, sweeter the sweetest. The atmosphere got relaxed and the weather almost made a Mediterranean ambience.

In the finals the competitors showed some good moves on the boxes and some nice tricks on the kickers. Finally it was the French guy Julien Cave who won the Junior Boys category with a Switch 180 Tailpress 180 out on the straight-box, a Frontside 720 on the Kicker and a Backflip with a Nosegrap. Within the Junior Girls category the Spanish Laia Vendrell cleaned up with a Switch 50/50 on the Straight-Box, a fresh Frontside 360 on the kicker and a 50/50 to Tailslide on the stepdown-box. The Youth Boys category was won by Axel Sapera from Spain by showing his smoothest run. The 50/50 to Nosepress on the straight-box, the Backside 540 on the second and the Frontside 360 on the third kicker convinced the judges.

The competition ended as it had started… the snowstorm came back but this time nobody gave a shit… we all knew: fortune favours the hard workers, right? This has been proven in Grandvalira… So what’s next? Expect more stories from us “out in the white” next weekend. Poland will tell us… Aight,… we like!
