When: 3-10 February, 2009
Where: Defereggen Valley, Austria
This looks more like summer camp than a freeride comp…
Although for once we were able to sleep in at least a little bit, everyone was slighlty tired after some mellow partying to celebrate the awesome day yesterday (actually the party was mainly done by Mr. Eric Themel and the O’Neill crew).
Desitnation: Defereggen Valley. But at first it looked as if we wouldn’t come far – after only one hour on the road one of the chef organisers was called to front: “Police police!”. The eager media crowd were pointing their camera lenses to the front within seconds to get the first shots if a scandal was to break out, just to be dissapointed. Apparently the driver was using a friends toll box or something and didn’t programme it right, all dealed with in a few minutes and without any spectacularity.

The riders use the break to play around a bit in front of the bus and the worrying shifted from the commence of the travel to the weather. 15 degress and sunshine isn’t really what you’re looking for going on a big mountain freeride competition…
The worrying fortunately only lasted until we reached the endlessly seeming Felbertauern Tunnel, that once again had a suprise prepared. As we drove out at the end, snowflakes were dancing everywhere through the sky and the whole bus started cheering like little children who jsut recieved a bag full of candy.
Pow pow wonderland – wheeeeeeeee
But tomorrow is going to be the real awesomeness manifested: we’re going tractor boarding!!! The organisers arranged a tractor and some locals to show us the best tree runs around and keep on driving us up again with a tractor and massive hanger!!! And because that isn’t enough goodness yet, it’s gonna be party time in a hut on the mountain in the evening… Whooohoooo!!
Envy us? Bet you do….
Check back on Sunday for some awesome powder and party pics – that is if I don’t drown in the great white out there tomorrow….
