As 07’s event prepares to kick off on Friday, we take a look back at Freestyle.Ch 2006 through the lens of Daniel Burrows.
Zürich is set to be awash with action sport’s finest from 22-24th September as Freestyle.ch 2006 presents it’s 12th annual meeting of world-class stars in freestyle sports.
As Europe’s largest freestyle sports event, Freestyle.ch once more presents a top rated starterlist. The world’s finest riders and X-Game winners in freestyle snowboarding, freeskiing, freestyle motocross (FMX) and skateboarding will compete at the Landiwiese in an attempt to win the coveted freestyle champ and crossover champ titles.
On the 28-metre high Big Air snow ramp, favourites include Swiss rider Nicolas Müller (Snowboarder of the Year 2005), Mathieu Crepel from France (TTR World Tour Champion 2006), FIS World Cup Champion Antti Autti from Finland and the American X-Games winner Travis Rice. Crossover champ 2005, Ettala Eero of Finland, may also be expected to give them a run for their money. Expect some fierce competition and electrifying tricks from this bunch as they kick-off the winter season in style.
With over $100, 000 in prize-money and an expected crowd of 50,000 visitors, the pressure is certainly on.
In addition to breathtaking contests, Freestyle.ch also houses the Label World trade fair, where over 70 exhibitors will be displaying their latest freestyle products. Visitors from all over Europe are expected to come and cheer on the pros, check out new trends and take part in activities such as the Public Skateboard Contest on the Miniramp.
