Though the German and Austrian alps have been receiving some much needed snowfall over the last week, spare a thought for our brother on the west side of the continent. Due to a lack of the white love the scheduled World Rookie Fest in Andorra that was set to go down from 19-20 December has had to be postponed till 30-31 January 2010.
Though bad news for grommits from that part of Europe, the good news is that from today if you think you’ve go what it takes to pit your shred skills against a host of other young rippers then you can sign up for the 3 Star World Rookie Fest in Livigno.
Here, some of the best young riders around will go hear to head from 16-20 January 2010 in the expansive snowboarding Nirvana that is Livigno’s Swatch Mottolino Snowpark. We went there last winter (check out our Livigno video Spotcheck) and that park is frickin’ sick and not only will you get to ride this bad boy, the winner will bag a ticket to film in Chile. It’s all part of the World Snowboard Federation and the TTR’s ‘Rookie to Pro’ concept and seeing how the likes of Peetu Piiroinen and co. are previous World Rookie winners it’s something that’s certainly working so mad props for that.
So if you’re a Rookie (born between 1 January 1992 and 31 December 1994) or a Grom (born after 1 January 1995) and think you’re pretty much the shit, get involved and you could be on your way to a burgeoning career in the shred. Inscriptions are done by regional federation as the level is über-high – double corks and 12s are not uncommon. There’s also the chance to take part in photo shoots, meet team managers and get your mug on the telly.
