Under bluebird skies, the riding level was über high in the Mottolino snowpark for the finals of the Protest World Rookie Fest Livigno, with Diana Augustinova and Sebbe De Buck winning the Groms and Katarzyna Rusin and Roope Tonteri taking the Rookies category.

In the girls category, which saw competitors tackle the M line of the Swatch Mottolino park, Czech girl Diana Augustinova placed ahead of Italians Maria Delfina Maiocco and Noemi Valloray in the younger Groms age group while the older Rookies contest saw Poland’s Katarzyna Rusin top out ahead of Nora Thompson from Norway and the Finn Noemi Enne.

It was over to the L and XL lines for the young bucks where, in the Groms Belgium’s Seppe De Buck pulled out a winning run consisting of a 50-50 180 out, switch backside 540, frontside 720 and backside 720. American Seamus O’Connor came in second with Lucas Baume of Switzerland in third.

As for the boys’ Rookie division, it was last year’s overall World Rookie Tour champion Roope Tonteri from Finland who showed he means business and stomped a killer run that started off with 50-50 backflip out,  cab 900,  backside 900 and cab 1080. Norway’s Brage B Richenberg took second and Swede Niklas Mattsson finished third.

Roope comes away from Livigno not only with the glory from this gig, it also means he wins a wildcard to the 6Star Oakley Arctic Challenge Oslo this March and a ticket to the Freeride Rookie Fest in Chile in August. This backcountry filming experience in the Andes, with international pros and a professional film production company, will surely be a good eye-opener for the young scamp.
