From Friday, March 21st until Monday, March 24th the mountain surfing Easter classic will be taking place on the Kitzsteinhorn. Skier and snowboarder will give their best performances in the Freeride Cross and the Slopestyle. The Volvo X OVER RIDE 08 brings it all together and the selection of “Ruler of the Hill” will be properly celebrated as the climax of the event. The winners of all categories can count on masses of prizes and sensational prize money worth a total of 9,000 €.
Two days, two contents: it all starts off on Easter Saturday with the Freeride Cross for skiers and boarders in the Langwied Open Field. The switch to the Slopestyle Challenge in the DC Central Park happens on Sunday. All in all pros and amateurs have 30,000m² to show off their best moves and jumps. Three different snowparks for all levels form the biggest surface in all the Central Alps.
Not only will performances on skis and boards be judged on Sunday. At the Almdudler “Ride with Style” event the best outfit for “Freestyle in the 50s” will also win a prize.
During the contests the audiences can also be active by testing the newest Freeride and Freestyle skis and snowboards from all the biggest names, making the Volvo X OVER RIDE 08 Europe’s biggest Freestyle/Freeride ski and snowboard test again.
For riders and audience there is a specially produced sensational weekend package: accommodation, lift pass, complete ski and snowboard test, entry fees, your invitation to the party and much more. All this can be yours from just 133.00€ – sign up and be part of it HERE
In the Freeride Cross on Saturday four riders start together on an Open Field with up to 40° gradient in the Freeride Eldorado Langwied: over 1.6 km downhill a drop of 620 m must be conquered. The first two to finish go into the next round until the X OVER RIDE Superfinal. The winners for New School Ski and Board will be selected for both men and women.
In the Slopestyle Contest on Sunday it’s all about “Spin & Style”. It will begin in a Jam Session format and each run will be judged according to performance. The Technical runs will be even more lightly regulated and anything goes. For Style Runs spins are limited to 540° and the judges will keep a close eye on how stylish the performed tricks are.
Best of all – Ruler of the Hill
Anyone who starts both contests has the chance to be selected as “Ruler of the Hill” and can look forward to a week at the Nalu Surf Camp in Portugal.
Outline programm at the VOLVO XC ICE CAMP presented by Nokia
Daily led Style Sessions for skiers and boarders in the park might prove the foundation stone for taking part in the next X OVER Ride. Even here, however, Volvo doesn’t just value style but also safety. Knowing how to use an avalanche transceiver is a must for all Freeriders. With extensive training in the avalanche field on Easter Sunday you can go out on the search. The Easter Bunny has hidden a Nokia 5610 express music. Speed pays off in this case – whoever finds it first gets to keep it.
If that’s too much action for you, check out the spot with the best view over the Slopestyle Parcours in DC Central Park directly by the ICE CAMP. Not only can you marvel at the competitors’ spectacular tricks during the contest but you can also admire the Ice Bar and the Ice Lounges in the crystal-clear atmosphere of four linked igloos each with a 12 m diameter.
The legendary after-party
In the evening the Volvo X OVER RIDE moves into the valley. On Saturday and Sunday the winners of each contest are celebrated. Burg Kaprun rocks with live acts, cool drink and the best sounds.
On Saturday Gaudalajara take over the stage and present their new album (released on March 1st 2008).
